Where's Bristol?

I wouldn't want to be Beau's or Track's Brigade commander - if anything happens to either of them, well .............

I think it's a testament to the quality of the people who are second on each party's ticket that they both have children serving in Iraq!

See, here is an example of somebody looking at the candidate's children and equating it with their quality to be leaders.

May I ask why?

What exactly does it say about a candidate?

I frankly think its most likely because she's 17. She's pregnant, her hormones are all over the place. Her life has changed in ways that literally are so huge, its hard to comprehend. Her mom is running for VP, and she's pregnant. I don't know many 17 year olds who could handle that to the point of wanting to be in the public eye.

When Clinton ran in 1992, I don't recall Chelsea or the Gore children being mentioned much at all. The Clintons wisely kept her out of the public eye.

This past campaign, Chelsea was a grown woman so it made total sense for her to be out there with her mom. Heck, I thought she was her mom's best faily asset on the campaign trail. I am frankly hopeful she herself will go into politics because I think she has a lot to offer judging by the things I heard her say a few times. I was mightily impressed.

The younger Palin kids may come more because at the age they are and the distance their hometown is from the rest of the U.S., its just not feasible for them not to be out there.

I already stated several times that I respect and support Bristol's choices if they are hers and hers alone. She is an adult and she has that right.

But, the party has made it a point to stand on a platform of acceptance because everybody makes mistakes (one I support) and abstinence only education in the schools.

So, if they are forcing Bristol to stay away because she might offend the conservative base, then that gets into politics.

Would people's curiousity and doubt be satisfied if Bristol were to give a press conference and emphatically state that she supports her mother 100%?? Maybe for some, but for others they would continue to believe that it was all staged. So there really isn't anything that could be said or done to convince some people.

Hell, at this point I would be happy if the Mother gave a press conference.

If it is politics that is keeping her home, then that is a reflection on her mother and her positions that she is running on.

Chelsea was called some pretty ugly names, yet she did not let it force her into seclusion.

Jenna and Barbara had their drunken college escapades detailed in the press, yet it never stopped them from campaigning for their father.

When something is completely out of the ordinary for the situation, questions arise.

I am not quite buying the "they were mean to me" whine from Palin.

I don't recall Chelsea "running" when she was 17 years old. In fact, I don't recall Chelsea making a statement to the press even in this campaign. If you recall, she refused to talk to a reporter from Junior Scholastics.

Ok, but I thought this thread was about Bristol.:confused3

Yup. It is. But if Mom gave a press conference, it might clear up a bunch of confusion for the mainstream.

You are right, it won't change the minds of the fringe, just like nothing Obama could say would change the minds of the fringe on the other side.

But for most of us, and most of mainstream US, we just want some answers.

Alright, well I was just addressing the issue regarding Bristol. But hey, it's your thread, so take it in whichever direction you choose to.

Why does she owe us a press conference? If I was curious about the Obama girls' grades or possible learning disorders (not implying there are any), would he be obligated to give us a press conference on it?

Actually, I meant by Sarah having a press conference, that might be one of the questions that was cleared up.

A simple "How is Bristol doing?'

answered by "She is attending to her wedding, school and making plans for her new baby" would be pretty much satisfying to most of the people I know.

By keeping silent, she is forcing people to imagine the truth and usually the imagined is far worse than the actual truth.

Obama didn't throw his kids front and center as part of the campaign and her pro-life platform.

If he would have said, Malia has a learning disability, therefore I am supporting more funding for learning disabilities, then yes, he would be expected to answer how Malia was doing.

He brought his kids to the convention just like Palin did. So I guess they're fair game in your eyes?

That would be pretty funny if a reporter wasted one of their questions on that issue. Maybe Katie will ask her how Bristol is doing. I really don't think most people are all that concerned, and probably have just made assumptions which aren't sinister at all. Those imagining the worst, wouldn't be satisfied with any remarks her mother would make on her behalf.

Bringing the kids to the convention is one thing.

Using your kids to say "See how pro-life we are, my teenage daughter is pregnant and she is keeping the baby" is completely different.

She used her child and her children to illustrate her platform.

You can't open the door when it helps you, only to shut it when it begins to become uncomfortable.

But you are right. It is not a huge concern for the presidency. It was merely a curiosity.

In your eyes, she is damned if she does and damned if she doesn't. Having her family join her on the campaign is illustrating her pro-life stance. Leaving a pregnant daughter home is "secreting her away". I think the Palins are quite comfortable in their 'own skin' and in their own family situation. If she wasn't, she wouldn't have signed on for VP.

Has Palin whined about people being mean to her? I'm not saying that it hasn't happened, but I haven't seen it yet. Do you have a link if you don't mind?

Also, in regards to the children named above, they were all children of Presidential candidates - not VP candidates.

She brought her children to the convention just like all the other candidates did. If people want to assume she is using them, that is not in her control. Obviously people are going to judge her no matter how she had handled it. It was not Sarah who announced that her daughter was pregnant.

Sorry, but where did I say having her children on the campaign is illustrating her pro-life stance. I actually said a couple of pages back I support her keeping her kids with her.

Verbalizing, 'see my daughter is pregnant, so we are pro-life" is illustrating her pro-life stance.

I am the OP :confused3

Beau was at the Democratic Convention. I have no idea what I proved to me, but if you say so, Yay Me. :yay:

:rotfl2: You would think you would get it then! You asked "where is Bristol", you have not seen her since the convention. I have not seen Joe or his children or grandchildren since the convention. "Where is Ashley??" "Where is Finnegan? "WHERE is Joe"? :confused3

You started by bringing kids into it.
