Looking at probably 4 rooms
2 couples - One parent/grandparent other adult son and girlfriend
2 families of 5.
Grandparents have some medical issues and may not go into the parks.
I was thinking Poly.
Where would you stay?

Rent points and get two DVC 2 bedroom villas. Animal Kingdom Villas might be nice. The older couple can sit and look at the animals. They might also enjoy Old Key West...my inlaws insist on staying there when we book trips with or for them. Those villas are really large and it's a quaint resort. I book in the hospitality house section so they can walk over to the main building (to eat) and to the bus stop that goes directly out to the parks. I also request first floor for medical reasons as MIL has 2 bad knees and they give me that request every time (there's no elevators).

If no DVC, I'd still go with Animal Kingdom Lodge.

I would also say that DVC rooms are probably the way to go.
Can the grandparent still go to Downtown Disney/Disney Springs? Can they go swimming? I'm not asking for their medical conditions, but what they can do depends on where you might want to stay.

Poly is nice if they want to hang out at the pool all day. They can also grab a drink later in the day at Trader Sam's, or monorail over to GF for some tea time or enjoy the piano player.

Poly is lovely, but, if you want to stay on the monorail, you may want to consider GF. I suggest this particularly for those who may not go to the parks. GF has a lot for an older couple to do and also has, IMHO, a better QS dining option than Poly if they are going to have lunch at the resort often (Capt. Cook's was a nightmare when we stayed at Poly in August). The GF pools are more relaxing IMHO. The Poly pool offers little to no shade. They could do the tea, poke around in the shops, etc. The GF rooms are spacious and they were just redone.

If you don't mind being a little removed from most parks, AKV is lovely and, again, may be a little more interesting for an older couple not going to the parks. If you did AKV, you could do a combination of 1 bedrooms and studios or 2 bedrooms/studios, etc.

They would go to Disney springs I'm sure. I thought of they were on the monorail they could visit the other resorts on the line and always ride it to Epcot.
I thought about AKL but it is so far away from MK where I think we will spend most of our days and we want to be able to eat dinner with them.

Either Poly or GF would be great. And being on the monorail makes it easy for them to resort hop to look around the other MK monorail resorts to shop, eat, etc.
One day we had a resort day and took monorail to MK then hopped on the Ft Wilderness boat for a late breakfast at Trails end. It's close to boat dock. There's also a resort shop near by and the stables. We spent quite a bit of time roaming around. Then you can take the boat over to WL to visit, then the boat to CR. Then hop back on monorail to Poly or GF!
Love staying at the monorail resorts. And added benefit is watching Wishes and electric water parade from your resort.

Disney Springs can be a nightmare on the bus so I would suggest a taxi for them to get around.

If the grands did go into a park, do you know which is most likely? I think you have great options at any of the monorail resorts, or Boardwalk resorts for things to do outside the parks. If they enjoy people watching, sipping a drink or snack, you can't go wrong with any of those.

The monorail resorts give them Wishes and the Electrical Water Pageant every night by the water, the GF has a band in the lobby every day.

Boardwalk has so many snack, drink, and people watching options, they won't get bored. The boat goes between all of the resorts, and there's Epcot World Showcase for a quick visit. At Boardwalk and Beach Club, there are reasonably priced DVC options, if you want a combination of rooms and villas. GF villas and Poly bungalows are much higher priced. If Grandma enjoys cooking, a villacould be a great option for all of you too if she prepared some meals while you were at parks.

Give yourself space, you don't need to be next door to each other so don't stress about that.

Just my 2 cents off the top of my head.

If you look into DVC points rental be sure you know the bed arrangements. Could be an advantage. A 2 Bedroom Villa will have a bedroom that is like a hotel room, sleeping 4 and maybe 5 depending on which resort. The main bedroom has a king bed, and then there is a sleep sofa in the living room, queen side. Some resorts (such as AKV) have an additional single sleeper chair in the living room.

But renting points comes with some risk so read up on this. Plenty of stories positive and a few that were a problem on these boards.

I like that you are thinking about a monorail resort so you can meet the grandparents and have a meal with them. It will be easy to just zip over and then back to the park. It will also be nice for them to be able to resort hop for a meal or a walk around if they wanted to.

I'd pick GF first, second would be Poly, and last would be CR. My order mostly comes from the grounds and the lobby at the GF. As much as I love the Poly's lobby it's not a place I'd want to spend a lot of time. The GF is more the kind of space one could spend a few hours in reading a book or doing a crossword.

DVC rent points (as other have said).

OR I would also consider POR. Best food court on WDW property IMHO, carriage rides, boat ride to DTD, Yeeha Bob, pleasant people watching without chaos, etc.

I agree that the Grand would be my first choice if it fit within the budget. It has so much to offer right in the hotel lobby alone, and for people who might just want to sit back and spend an afternoon relaxing, this is a perfect spot. There are lovely couches and seating areas throughout the lobby as well as on the second floor. The Grand Pianist entertains daily in the afternoon as well as in the evening, and the Grand Orchestra entertains as well. The lobby invites you to sit at one of the several tables to read a paper or do crosswords etc, you are not limited to balancing on your lap.

There are plenty of dining options, and viewing the evening shows is convenient. Then there is the monorail access to the MK, Epcot and the other monorail resorts.

If they may not leave the resort, and you are spending most of your time at the MK, I would definitely choose a monorail resort. There is more to see and do there since they could still see the EWP, the castle, and the fireworks from the resort. I would go with whichever place you think the grandparents would be the happiest since they will be there all day. The GF has the nice lobby with music and lots of shops, and the Poly is lovely with its gardens and views of the castle, so I'd carefully consider either of them.

I just wanted to add that I would not rule out the parks though. Disney is really friendly in terms of helping those folks who have medical challenges enjoy the parks. I know tha tnot eveyone will want to go, but you may be pleasantly surprised. I do hope that you all have fun!
