Where would you stay if you had to go to a conference?

I'm going to a conference which will be held at the Swan/Dolphin. I'd love to stay there, but the rate is more than TWICE (even with discounts) the rate approved for state travel for my university. We'll be at Disney for a family trip a few weeks prior, so this trip will be just me. Soooooo...I want to stay somewhere safe and clean close to the Swan/Dolphin. And it has to be less than $100/night.

Any suggestions?

Will you have a car? I would check out the Country Inn & Suites and the Amerisuites at Calypso Cay. You could leave there, head up Osceola Parkway and hop on World Drive to the Epcot Area. Or any of the hotels at Downtown Disney would be convenient.

What about one of the All Star resorts..it is easy to get to Swan/Dolphin from there. (if you have a car, of course)

Thank you for the suggestions so far! Unfortunately, the All-Stars are ~$20 out of the price range, as is the Country Inn.

I will have a car. I'm just not at all familiar with the area off the resort.
Where could I find a list of Downtown Disney resorts?

Some options that are coming up on Orbitz when I search Lake Buena Vista are:
SPM Bluetree
Hawthorne Suites at Sea World
Holiday Inn Sunspree
International Plaza
...and Best Western/HowardJohnson/Ramada that are so cheap they make me nervous!

I could pay the $10/night difference out of my pocket for:
Orlando Metropolitan
Orlando Vista
Holiday Inn Express
And there are probably some that aren't showing up on Orbitz.

Any thoughts?

Yes, get a condo at Windsor Hills Resort, stay offsite!

It will be 10x nicer than ANY cheap motel room, and should run you well under $100 a night.

You'll also have your own kitchen, be staying in a 5* gated resort community with an incredible pool, playground, etc, it will get you the best of both worlds and cost a lot less than the hotel options you're looking at!

Go on the site and put out a "2 bedroom inquiry" or a "3 bedroom inquiry" (do NOT do a general inquiry or you will get 100s and 100s of emails back!). Individual owners will then respond to you who have availability on your dates. You're renting direct from the owners, so you cut out the "middleman"...and save a bundle in the process. The resort is gorgeous and all brand new, and not that many people know about it yet, so you can still find some deals (e.g...a beautiful condo under$100/night!).

You can also try a townhome or condo at Windsor Palms. Again close to the area. www.windsor-palms-florida.net

As far as the hotels go, I don't have any experience of any of them. But if you are only going to be there to sleep, perhaps it won't be too bad. Probably very basic rooms, but if it is clean, then does that really matter?

When are you going? I'm wondering what conference as well. There is one that I was going to as well that is being held there.

Is it for AMT?

Thank you for the suggestions!

Robyn - It's a different conference...the first week of June.
