Where would you like to see a new DVC offsite resort?

My initial thought is the Caribbean. The problem is could Disney compete with what is available? We would rent our points and book at one of hundreds of other options.

At one time, there was talk of DVC resorts in New York (Times Square area), Beaver Creek Colorado (near Vail), and Newport Coast California. None were ever built.

The NY site is now a Westin hotel, the Beaver Creek site is now a Hyatt Vacation Club resort, and the Newport Coast site is now a Marriott Vacation Club resort.
The NY and Colorado projects were never officially announced, but the Newport Coast project was.

We've been to the Newport Coast resort! That would've been great as DVC. Location is amazing, about 45 minutes to Disneyland and ocean views.

I like the idea in the Rockies. During the winter you have skiing and during the summer you have hiking. There is plenty to do here in Colorado year round. You could also put one in Utah.

I'm with you on that! All the off-site resorts so far have been in tropical, or at least hot in the summer, destinations. I'd love to see one in Colorado for a change, or another fairly northern non-ocean resort.

There are tons of places that would be great (Europe, NYC or the Rockies) but if they could build an Aulani-type (ie AMAZING) almost fully inclusive resort in Puerto Rico it would would be great for east coasters. Aulani is incredible but the cost of flights from the east coast makes it inaccessible for a lot of people who will just never be able to afford the flights. It is much easier for west coasters to get there. As already mentioned by other posters they could tie in DCL's and you wouldn't need passports if they built in P.R.

They could do so much more with CC. I'd suppose it may encroach upon the cruise visitors, though.

Its one thing to ask where you want DVD to build another DVC resort, but its an entirely different question if you ask where are you willing to buy points? Aulani gets rave reviews from almost everyone who visits, and lots of non-owners use their DVC points at the resort. However, its going to take Aulani a long time to sell out. Many DVC members might love to use their points at a Puerto Rico or Bahamas DVC resort, but how many will buy enough points at those resorts to go once or twice a year? Unfortunately, probably not enough to make it a viable timeshare property.

The problem w/ CC is that 1) I've read that it's extremely buggie & they have to do a lot of pest control at night while it's uninhabited and 2) it's too way small - there's no other tourism opportunities so there really isn't a lot more they could do with it. At least w/ a larger inhabited island like Puerto Rico there are other sightseeing, shopping and dining opportunities. Plus if they developed CC it would take away from the cruises marketing a stop at a "private" island.

DVC has priced us out of buying any more points ANYWHERE. Not only is the price per point too high but the newer resorts all require too many points per night for us to stay at many of them for the small number of points we own. We're glad we bought when we did bcuz it surely wouldn't happen now. Aulani is fabulous and we hope to return one day but with the changes coming to the point chart in 2016 and the high cost of airfare we can ony hope to get back one day. We could never afford to go with any regularity so why buy points at a resort you can't afford to GET TO?! I think that is the problem if Aulani sales are slow. Even if we took a banking & borrowing approach and bought a minimum amount of points there we couldn't afford the air to get there but only maybe once every 5 years or so (JM2C on Aulani sales).

MY wish list would be

Manhattan
Huntington Beach, CA
New Orleans

I think people would pay a premium for NYC. A kid-friendly resort in NYC doesn't exist. I think people would be tripping over themselves to buy in for the 11 month priority. Btw...any chance dcl would go out of NYC again?

I have no interest in off-site locations. I bought DVC to stay onsite at WDW. My biggest worry with off-site locations would be that they distort the availability at WDW if more off-site owners want to book at WDW than onsite owners want to book off-site.

Well that took a little longer to happen than I would have predicted initially. :D

I'd love Lake George, NY - gorgeous in the summer and fall, skiing nearby in the winter. Of course that's purely selfish as we vacation with family there and it would mean more room for my family of 3 since we wouldn't be staying in the condo with everyone else in the extended family ;)
