This is my very first post! :wave2: I had no clue where to put this. Hope this is ok?!?

Husband and I will be in Disney over super bowl weekend. We are both huge football fans. Anyone have any suggestions as to where we should watch the big game?!? I am thinking the ESPN club on the boardwalk, but I didn't know if there were any other good ideas.
Anyone else been there for the Super Bowl in the past? How was it?
TIA - Heather

HHMcG,

First WELCOME TO THE DIS BOARDS,

Other then in a suite at the VWL or BWV the ESPN Club would be the only place I would even consider.

ESPN Club features 100 screens -- there are even TVs in the bathrooms! -- with all of the latest sporting events. There are regularly scheduled Trivia Nights and Sports Talk Live! shows, with live ESPN sports hosts bringing celebrity interviews, game analysis and sports trivia contests. They also feature NFL Playoff games, up to the Super Bowl. On the menu, you'll find the usual suspects: sandwiches, burgers and fries, plus, a variety of salads. Call 407-939-1177 for more information.

Hi! Welcome!!!
The ESPN Club would be a GREAT place to see the Super Bowl, it's a great sports bar! However, you'd probably need to get there around 2 PM to get a seat for the game (at 6:18!!!) Plus, you probably wouldn't get to see the cool commercials, they sometimes don't show them...
As an alternate, your or any resort bar will be showing it, and it will probably be far less crowded. Where are you staying? All resort except the values have a lounge, although I do believe that Pop Century may have one, but I'm not sure. Great bars are the Outer Rim at the Contemporary (4th floor), the Tambu Lounge(?) at the Poly (they have a big screen TV!) and the Crew's Cup Lounge at the Yacht Club (although I'm not positive they have TV's but I think they do!) Good munchies are at the Crew's Cup too.
Wherever you wind up, have a great time, and know I'm jealous!

Hi HHMcG - Glad to have you aboard!!!

If you want to go to ESPN for the Superbowl, you'd better plan to make a day of it if you want a seat. People are there as soon as they open and it was packed!!! They even had a huge tent set up outside that was crowded too!!!

The year I was there, ALL resorts had something going on. The Value Resorts all had TVs set up in their food courts with food and beer specials for the game. I don't think you'll have trouble finding a place to watch it!!!

Have fun!!! :teeth:

Ugg! That is what I was afraid of! I just don't want to waste time on my vacation waiting for the game.

We are staying at Pop Century, so not sure if there is a lounge. I'll just have to badger every CM I cross paths with to find out what is going on everywhere for the big game. If worse comes to worse I guess well just camp out in the food court.

Thanks for the help!!

Hey - welcome to the DIS - Nice to have you as part of the community!

I'm going to move this to the TPA&S (Theme Parks, Attractions & Strategies) board for more possible responses!

ESPN is a ZOO on Sper Bowl Sunday!!!!
Here are a few *hidden* spots that are enjoyable to watch the game.
The Crewscup lounge at the YC
The Outter Rim at the CR
Both have a menu and TV's the OR has a wide creen TV in teh back that is hardly used.
If they open Martha's Vineyard at the BC that is also another great location.

The All Star Cafe at the Wide World of Sports does take priority seating reservations. We watched the wildcard games this past Sunday at the ESPN club and had a great time. We arrived about 45 minutes prior to game time and I was very surprised to see only about 4 tables being used in the bar area. We had our pick of seats. By the time we left, it had filled up and there were a few people waiting for tables. It was a lot of fun, but I'm not sure if I'd want to spend 8 hours sitting in there on Super Bowl Sunday.

Last year, we checked in to BCV on the Saturday of Super Bowl weekend.....and about 3 or 4 days prior to that, I called the front desk at the BC, to find out about the Super Bowl Festivities..........they were able to direct me to the All Star Cafe who was having some sort of "party" for the game.......It was a "Pay one price" type deal, you had to pay up front with a credit card and you had to call the Cafe directly, no PS's on the WDW-DINE telephone number.........But they were sold out pretty quickly. We could not get in...........

We ended up watching the game in our suite in the BCV's........we had a pretty large party so it was pretty good...........

Well....... my point is, if you want to actually go somewhere, start working on it NOW.........And ESPN.....you will have to be there when it opens otherwise forget it..................Me personally, I've got no problem with doing that, but DW would have killed me.........

Best of luck...........you'll find a magical place to watch it and you WILL end up with a great memory, so don't sweat it........

We were also in there last Sunday. Its a great place. The food is VERY good. We ate lunch and waitted until half time and had desert. They don't push you to leave when your done eatting. You can just sit with your drinks. T.V.s in the bathroom so you don't miss a minute of the game.

I would go to the Poly, they have a HUGE TV and do special Supergames and Party stuff around the lounge!

I know this is off the subject but since I am from New Orleans and it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that our team will ever make the super bowl since in their 37 year history we have only won ONE and yes I said ONE playoff game - I say -

Who cares about the super bowl when LSU just won the National Championship!!!

My DH and I go each January and have been there during Superbowl Sunday as well as playoff games. After walking by the ESPN Club, we quickly forgot any idea of getting ANYWHERE near there. It was loud, crowded, and not my cup of tea.

One year, Dad and my DH got grinders at the takeout window at the BW and watched the game in the room. Great view, no crowds, and they had a blast. (Mom and I went shopping DTD :teeth: )

The All Star reports all have a large screen tv in the food court area which I am sure will have the game on.

We will be there next weekend and plan on watching the game in our 1 bedroom at the BWV. We will get something yummy to snack on and hope it is a good game. (Last year we were at the BCV and I could see Illuminations out my window!)

Have fun!

When I visit the Rainforest Cafe, they usually have all of their Television screens on ESPN or CBS Sports. When I want to watch and college football or basketball game when im at WDW, I always go to the Rainforest Cafe. Its a great atmosphere.

We watched the Super Bowl at the CR Outer Rim Lounge last year. They had specials and it we had a good time.

Another vote for the Outer Rim! Watched the Pats play the Steelers there in their 2001 Super Bowl run and it was great! No Steeler fans to be seen by the end of the game!

GO PATS!! BEAT INDY!

Just wanted to update this:

I called All Star Cafe. They do not have any special event planned for the Super Bowl. So I called to make a PS. Turns out they are not taking PSs until the spring?!? I also noticed they had very limited hours; open Thursday - Sunday until 9pm. And it was impossible to reach an actual person by phone. (I left a message and they called me back.) I was wondering if this restaurant wasn't doing very good business?!? It is off the beaten path. Has anyone been there recently? I don't want to be the only people there to watch the big game.

I just realized I'll need to call back and make sure they will be staying open later than 9pm on Super Bowl Sunday?!? Could you image them closing in the middle of the game!

We still haven't decided where to watch the game but at least we have a couple choices to select from. Thanks for all the info.

I wasn't going to post but I just had to make a comment after reading all the posts.

I too will be at WDW over Superbowl Weekend but with only one difference. I will be enjoying my DW and three DD (8,5 & 2). Instead of watching the game.

As a former college and professional football player, let me tell you, not even the Superbowl can compare with spending time with your wife and kids at Disney.

Really, anywhere, because no matter where you are, people will be watching it.

I went to Planet Hollywood and watched part of it (2001), Coronado Springs bar/resturant area (2002) and then the food court last year at Port Orleans.

All star resort had big screen tvs set up in the food court. It wasn't crowded. They pre-game contests about sports in which my 10 year old son won a budwiser chair and cooler set.(couldn' t they have given him something more appropriate?.. oh well, it went to his dad.) He was thrilled anyway to win something. they did trivia games during all commercial breaks and had free hor'derves.
