So we are driving straight down to orlando from PA on the way down. It will be me, dh, ds (10) and dd (7) and we are going end of November. On the way home, we plan on stopping at the space center and then start our way home and take about 2 -3 days to do it...so here is where I need your help:) We would like to stay overnight in 2 places and do an activity/tourist attraction before travelling some more. This is to help break up the ride home...so...

Thinking of stopping near Savannah the first night - any hotel recommendations and activity recommendations?

Then we are talking about stopping somewhere in Virginia as well - any recommendations of where? hotels and activities?

Thanks for any help!!

In Virginia, I'd stop near Williamsburg. There's Colonial Williamsburg, an awesome living museum and fave family destination for us, Jamestowne Settlement, Yorktown. So lots of history to see and experience. I've been to Savannah, but I don't know the hotels very well. Have a great trip!

With kids that age I would think DC would be the logical choice for a stop. So many free museums and monuments to explore. It's probably cheaper, if you have your car, to stay outside of DC and drive or take the train in for the day. If you've already done the DC thing, what about Colonial Williamsburg? My coworker when recently and stayed at Embassy Suites which he said was nice for the price.

Edit to add that we stayed at the Washington Hilton (not the Capital Hilton) for around $100/night last year. Google for the Hilton MVP code to save 20%. The money we saved by staying just outside the mall area of DC easily paid for our cab fare to get to/from the mall area each day plus most of our meals. We were car-less so check if there's a parking fee

Thanks for the suggestions... I was considering williamsburg, but was thinking more than a day would be needed there!

Anyone have suggestions for savannah?
