My family and I (dw, ds 13, dd 11, ds 2) are heading to Disneyland in late August. I currently have a king kids suite booked at the Hojo. My question is would you stay at the residence inn to save a few dollars? Is the extra distance too much to walk? Thanks

No, the kids will love the waterpark at the Hojo. I think it's worth the extra money. Hojo will even give you a roll-away in your Kid's Suite at no extra charge. You'll have privacy, two bathrooms, and plenty of room. Plus, the kids will love the waterslide. I love the POC decor as well, makes it more fun! pirate:

Oh, forgot you asked about the walking. Maybe someone can answer that for you, but the walk from Hojo is not bad at all. We take the ART shuttle sometimes as well. I think the difference in the walks is nominal.

We stayed at Hojo in 2012 (myself and DS7) and had a great time. The walk was 7-8 minutes, not bad at all. DS was able to walk back at the end of the evening just fine. The trick to making the walk quick is to cross the street to Mimi's CAfe then cross ACROSS to the Disney side - then you aren't having to wait at all the hotel/McD's driveways and wait for the people walking in front of you to "move it" ;-) Hardly any walking traffic at all on the Disney side.

We stayed there in 2009 and it was not a bad walk at all, and I agree with Awdsmama about crossing at Mimi's. No foot traffic on the Disney side at all.

The kids loved the water park they have there and I enjoyed the hot tub :)

No way. Keep your reservation. Unless you're saving more than a couple bucks and it will make a huge difference in your trip (freeing up cash), I'd stick with HoJos.

You will get enough walking as it is. I have heard good things about HOJO, but that is a little bit of a walk as well. For your family size, I would check out the Anaheim Desert Inn and Suites, which is a much closer walk, and usually cheaper with big rooms and suites for families. They do not have the fancy pool like HOJO, but have an indoor pool and hot tub. They also have a free breakfast, which is VERY basic, but saves some $.

We've stayed at the HoJo twice and loved it each time. The walk is very doable. The pool is a kid-magnet. One thing you should be warned about - if you are planning to be in bed when the fireworks go off, it is LOUD. As in "we're under attack" loud. If you're planning to be in the parks at this time obviously it's not an issue.
