I'm going down to Tampa to visit my ds in early March. Dd, 12, and dh will be going also. I really don't want to have to sleep in sleeping bags on ds's floor, so we're looking for a decent but not expensive place to stay. He is about 10 minutes west of Tampa Intnl. Airport, where we will be renting a car. Anyone in that area have any suggestions for me? He suggested a Marriot in the Oldsmar (??) section to the west of him, but I didn't want to spend $140 a night. Hopefully, we'll be staying in Tampa for 3 days and then driving over to Pompano Beach to visit my dad for a few days and flying home from Ft. Lauderdale. Thanks for any suggestions.

We stayed at a very nice Baymont in Tampa, about 3 years ago. It was $49 a night then.

Whatever you do, DON'T stay at the Day's Inn, it was HORRENDOUS. We had got the same rate there, and had booked it on orbitz. The pictures they showed were not at all what we found. We ended up leaving after the first night, and that's when we found the Baymont. It came with a free continental breakfast as well.

Good luck!

Thanks...good info. I'll check it out.

Any more suggestions from those of you in the Tampa area??

Dont stay on Hillsbourough - not a very nice area.

Find something very close to International Mall would be good. Easy Access to expressways, as well as quite safe.

Westshore Mall area is *okay* - but could be hit or miss.

You know where else would be nice ( I stayed there when I trained in Tampa) The MainSail on Eisenhower Blvd. Also around 10 minutes from Airport...

Gated in, all rooms are *suites*, nice pool, decent restaurant, always an officer in parking lot. Close to everything - and again, easy access...

They used to be apartments for IBM until IBM moved from that business location.

That looks nice! My dh works for UnitedHealth. They have an office down there in that area. I'm thinking that maybe he should come up with a way to be able to just write this whole trip off as a business expense!!! Ds is over in the Rocky Creek area(Harborside Dr. area).

Yesssss - it's super close to Uni-Health.

My old company (Concentra) worked with UH - and our offices were very close.

The MainSail is a nice place. Not sure on prices. But they work with a lot of ocmpanies in the area (Southwest stays there exclusively) and offer discounts to those business employee's. Call and mention Uni-Health and see what they can offer you.

Good luck!

How about at WDW, a short hour drive away? :moped: :cool1: :teeth:

Oh dear God Dan.....don't even go there! That's all my 12 y/o dd would need. She's already lobbying for a side trip so she can ride EE!!! Maybe, if we don't drive down to Pompano to see my dad we'll head north to 'you know where', to finish the trip!!!

My sisters stay here when they come to visit, depending on when you come, you may be able to get a decent rate. I am usually able to get them $99 rates with my AAA discount if it is off-season. It is located right in the International Mall (which someone already mentioned -fabulous!) and right next to the airport. It is a gorgeous hotel. Renaissance Tampa Hotel International Plaza:
