I'm going solo and don't want to walk far to the main building. I also do not smoke.

Magnolia Terrace is a non-smoking building and convenient to the Main Building. I've stayed in each of the 4 Mansion buildings on 4 solo trips. Parterre Place is non-smoking, but it seemed like a longer walk. And it was the only Mansion where I had to go back and get a room change! Initially they gave me a "garden view" first floor room. Well, I was closer to the FQ than the Main building at POR and first floor garden view seemed like bushes for people to hide in. Although I love going solo, I learned then that I always get an upper floor room.

We were in building 18 in Alligator Bayou on our last trip; I liked it better than the mansions, and it was very close to Bus, Food, and the pool. Very convenient.

I'm going to call and change from the cabins to the mansion - cabins look too rustic for me!

If you want to stay in the mansions, I would also recommend Magnolia Terrace. We stayed there a couple of years ago, and it seesm to be the closest mansion to the main building. Magnolia Terrace is right near the path that leads to the main pool and the over the bridge to the main building. It is a non-smoking building, and there is also a quiet pool next to it. I was very happy with the location.

We stayed at Parterre Place, but if going back would probably select Magnolia Terrace. I liked Parterre Place, but it's probably not as close to the main building. It also depends on where your room is placed within the mansions.

I agree about the cabins - they didn't seem as nice as the mansions. Just my 2 cents!

We stayed in Aligator Bayou bldg 37, too far of a walk to the food court (but close to the North bus depot!).

I agree with Ricola in that bldg 14, 15 & 18 all were pretty close.
I just talked to a CM about an October stay & she advised Magnolia Terrace as well.

Look at the map from the DIS main page to get a good idea of the layout.

What are the 'cabins' anyway?????

I've decided where to stay: 3 nights in Alligator Bayou and 3 nights in Magnolia Terrace. Now to decide which one first!

Another vote for Magnolia. Out the back door the bus depot is few hundred feet away, the 'business' buildings are a quick walk through Ole' Man Island.
