Ok - going to WDW end of Jan/begin of Feb. IF we stay onsite -- what combos' do I need to look at? I've read people mentioning room discounts -- not clear how to get them - but I think then I need to buy eveything separately; Free Dining w/ a package; there is also a Gift card package out ... anything else? We don't plan on going back again soon, so I don't think AP would be a benefit.

:welcome:

I would suggest that you do some reading on our Codes and Rates Board: http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=93 and take a look at our informational site www.wdwinfo.com .

Usually the best way to decide what option is best for you is to actually price it out. On the official Disney website you can play around with all the different discounts and see which one may work best. Many people ask if the Free Dining/Dining Plan are really worth it, but that is a very personal decision. You can see menus with prices on wdwinfo and try to estimate what your food costs will be.

If you prefer to have someone to help you out with your options then you may find that a Disney Specialist Travel Agent is invaluable. Travel Agents are paid by the company and not by their client so the price will be exactly the same to you whether you book it yourself of with them, and you get someone to assist you with all the details. Dreams Unlimited specializes in Disney and is our board sponsor so they would be a good agency to try.

There is a room discount and a free dining discount for dates in February. If you are staying at a deluxe resort then it is usually a better deal to take the room discount. If you are staing at a value or a moderate resort then free dining should be the better deal. We are a family of 6 and always get two connecting rooms at a value resort. There is no better discount out there for us than free dining - it saves us about $1,200.00. For us, with a free dining discount, it is cheaper to stay on-site. The gift card discount really isn't that good, unless there are no other discounts available for your dates.

Just go to the WDW website and go under special offers and you can price out your vacation with the different discounts

We didn't do the dining the 1st time we went, really didn't know much about it. But this time we chose a week that they're offering the dining for free...so if I were you I would definitely do that. Good luck with your planning! :yay:
