I'm getting my kids clothes together for a consignment sale. I've hit a snag. I really need some kids clothes hangers (plastic is best for this I think). I did get a bunch of clothes hangers free from Wal-Mart, but they were adult sizes. Those won't work for a lot of the clothes. Just doesn't fit. I've tried Freecycle and have a few maybes. But so far nothing has panned out. I do need to contact some local dry cleaners because someone told me they will give away some.

Any other ideas? I would really appreciate it! TIA! :)

This isn't exactly what you are looking for, but I use the wire hangers from the drycleaner for my kids clothes when I sell them at a consignment sale. If I have to, I just bend the hanger a little to fit the item (like turning the ends down a bit and pushing the sides together to fit in a small sleeve). It works for most clothes. Good luck!

Do you have any friends from whom you can borrow the hangers? I don't go to any sales with the expectation of bringing the hangers home. Just mark them with a colored sticker dot so you know to whom they belong.

Be sure to check out your consignment sale rules. All of the sales in my area state that ONLY wire hangers should be used. My husband wears a uniform to work, so we always have an over abundance of hangers in my house. Maybe check out places that wear a uniform (car dealerships, oil change places, or places like that).

Good luck at your sale. I really need to get my stuff together!

Funny...but the consignment sale I work for only allows plastic or plastic-coated hangers. We will not accept the dry cleaner hangers. So definitely check with your sale.

Check with kid's clothing stores like Gymboree or Old Navy or places like that. They've donated boxes and boxes for families when they've had fires here that they were just going to throw out.

Thanks ladies, you've given me some great leads. :) I don't know for sure if the consignment sale accepts wire hangers. They didn't specify. I saw a picture where they were using plastic, so I'm going from there.

Thanks again!

I have a big box of kids hangers from the Disney store (plain clear ones with metal hooks). There's maybe 50-100 in there, I'd have to let you know tonight.

If you were willing to pay the shipping, you can have them.

Let me know, via PM or here!

First ask friends whose kids are just beyond toddlers, they will probably have lots of hangers that baby clothes can fit on, and if you have to Dollar Tree sells a pack of 10 i think for a $1:goodvibes

Thank you for your kind offer. I'm going to try to exhaust all avenues to get them for free. I've already spent some money on a steam iron that I can just mist over the clothes while they are hanging.

If you find any place, please post! My kids' closets desperately need more hangers. I could buy some, but free is much better.

Have you asked the employees at the consignment store? The place I use will give me bags of hangers because they know I'm bringing them right back to them!

I'm getting ready to do back to back sales. The first one will accept any hanger, so I'll do the dry cleaner route there. The second requires child-sized plastic or coated wire hangers. Basically, I'll have to buy them from Walmart or Family Dollar etc. I suppose if you wanted to get really technical about it, you could up the price of each item a bit to cover the cost of purchasing hangers...

I get mine from Old Navy to use for our local consignment sale. Old Navy also has kids pants hangers which are hard to find especially for FREE! If you just call your local store and tell them what you are looking for, I bet they help you out. They may need to collect them for a few days.

I'm from Arkansas, too. I bet you're consigning at one of same sales I work for!:thumbsup2

Definitely double-check before you get everything ready. JBF Norman/OKC only allows plastic child-size hangers for 4T and under, I believe. 5+ can use adult plastic hangers (both either tube or department store). Wire hangers may be used for pants if they can't be pinned to a plastic hanger. After working our sale, I hate wire hangers!

I wouldn't expect to get the hangers back, either. Even if the buyer didn't get to keep them (which ours do), it would be difficult to remember whose hangers were whose.

Have fun! I love our sales!!!

When I did a rummage sale a few years ago, I went to Younkers (department store like Herberger's, Saks, etc) a few weeks before. I knew that they just throw all of their kids hangers away---oh, my goodness, what a waste!!!! I talked with a very nice young woman one evening, asking her if they might be able to throw the hangers into a bag for me rather than throw them in the garbage. She said she was working the next day and would be happy to do it. She had a huge bag of all sorts of hangers for me the next night! I now have boxes of hangers that I save from year to year for future sales. Drives my husband crazy!!!

Good luck!

I called Old Navy and they are having a clearance sale! The manager told me he was in need of more hangers right now! He was nice as he could be. He stated any other time he'd be able to give me lots! I could still use them towards the end of the month and he told me to call back then. So we'll see. In the mean time, I am making more calls.

I asked about the clearance sale and he said some of the kids shirts that were $8.50 a peice are now 3 for 6 (or something like that). I may drop by that sale! :upsidedow
