Hey

Getting close now!! I was thinking of doing a nice breakie on a 'day-off' (I'll be doing plenty don't worry!). I have heard bits and pieces about Ponderosa - is this worth checking out or is there somewhere else I can go on I-Drive? I don't fancy IHOP or that kind of thing.

Thanks Nick

Hi Nick,

We would normally fill up in the Ponderosa before going to the parks, with the all you can eat breakfast buffet. Its a good start to the day and there is plenty of selection. Friends have recommended the Golden Coral - haven't been, but will give it a go in a few weeks time.

Cheers Kelly - from recollection - is Ponderosa down towards the SW end of I-Drive? Anyone know what time it opens?

IMHO Ponderosa is poor quality. For something special try the B Line Diner inside the Peabody hotel. We go there a few times during our stay. Wonderful food, service and cool surroundings.

i can reccommend the Golden Corrall definately a great value, mega blowout, meal :cool1: ( not part of your calorie controled diet) But who is counting when your on holiday

Hi Nick
Was '99 last time I visited the I Drive Ponderosa but from memory it was more towards the Sea World end by quite an array of gift shops.
It opens very early 7am - 11am for breakfast. e visited the one on Kissimee in December and don't know whether it was getting on a bit by the time we got there but I did think the food was not very exciting and not as good as I remembered it.
Ithink Ponderosa is great for when you want to fill up quickly and cheaply for a day in the parks but on a day off I would propably take up the recommendation from Bridda.
Enjoy your trip - link for you below

Hiya :wave2:

I used Ponderosa for breakfast, Up just near wet 'n' wild. One day there was a really long queue so we drove down I-Drive towards seaworld and there was another smaller one. So there is a minimum of 2 avail on I-Drive.

We never tried ponderosa for breakfast but did try there for evening meal. We were disappointed with the quality of the food and service.

We did try sizzler, regularly and they sold daily mail for 75c. Golden Corral was good. For a treat denny's.

There is so much choice though you will struggle to fit every place in.

We ate at Sizzlers (over road from Wonderworks) a few mornings and preferred it to Ponderosa. Had Dinner at Golden Corral a few nights and it was fine, although didn't have breakfast there.

I'm not a big fan of Ponderosa, the quality of food there is very poor, I know it's 'all you can eat' but that sounds better than it tastes! I prefer to have breakfast at Dennys - it is more expensive than Ponderosa and the other buffet breakfasts but it is much bettter.

We liked IHOP for breakfast but haven't tried anywhere else as we're not big breakfast eaters :flower: . Did early lunches at Sizzler which were good but afraid I can't say anything positive about Dennys! We have tried several different ones over the years and haven't had a good experience once :confused3 Service in them all was dreadful and we even went so far as not to tip at one of them as they'd got the order wrong, the bill wrong and then totally ignored us!

Simple answer - Golden Corral. Food is better quality and there is a bigger choice also. I found that it's never as busy either as most British tourists visit Ponderosa and Denny's.

I went with a large group a couple of months ago. I wanted IHOP, we did it and it was hilarious. 19 of us and all ordered different things. The continental, Double Stack, The RootyTutti Something Fruity!?!! etc..... and then when all of them came out it was the same!! A plate with 2 very shrivelled sausages, a burnt to a crisp piece of bacon and an egg (sunny side up etc...) It was only the side plate of pancakes that appeared different.

Ponderosa. Ive kind of sussed that now. I prefer an evening meal there. Nice Steak and as much buffet as you can eat and there is really a large choice. Its especially nice to go there after Wet n Wild.

Breakfast - Well, The food is quite different to what us Brits are used to I think, Kids tried several things like us adults before we got into a set routine on Day 4 or 5 of what we liked. Personally for me, Get your Cereal, sit/eat coffee, Plate of V Crispy Bacon, shrivelled sausage and Scrambled egg, Toast, Coffee. Then waffles, Maple Syrup,Cakes, Ice Cream, Repeat this several times. Then do Kraken....

Avoid at all costs, strange white stuff in bowl, Porridge, Grits?, Corned Beef Hash?!

And finally, I personally think that each Ponderosa is very different in quality from 1 to the next. The 192 has a good one opposite Old Town. The one closer to Wet n Wild was better than the one near The Big Mcdonalds.

At the Golden Corral, the steak is part of the Buffet, so you have as much as you can eat.

The only Ponderosa we tried was the one by the big McDonalds and we didn't rate it at all.
As for corned beef hash, my DD had it almost every day and I've had to make it loads of times since we got home!!
The big novelty in places like Sizzlers is that the kids can help themselves to an ice cream at the end of breakfast!

LOL!

I can still taste that Corned beef hash! Ugggh!! - But then I am a fussy so in so!

The one by The Big Mcdonalds is poor, but only because as we arrived we saw most of the kitchen staff having a quick *** out the back door!?!

I guess it is what it is, a cheap convinent sit down eating place, - child friendly and no burger and fries in sight, enough choice to please everyone in the family and at a cheap price!

But you get what you pay for.

Thanks for all the feedback folks - I think I may have to give Golden Corral a go. Where abouts on I-Drive is it?

Please don't dismiss the Ponderosa. We have always gone there for breakfast and enjoyed it. The main thing is to have a really good breakfast, then you won't need anything till tea time.
