Where to go while kids are on Pirate Cruise

Just booked a Pirate Cruise for the kids out of the Port Orleans for next Sunday. Where can we go and get back in time to pick them up in two hours? I thought about heading into Downtown Disney, but with transportation times, I don't know if we'll have enough time. (we are not renting a car)

We're staying at AKL and had the option of booking the cruise out of GF, but I thought PO would be easier/closer to our hotel.

Any suggestions?

We always do breakfast nearby. Our son hasnt done the PO cruise, but when he did the GF, we hopped on a boat and road over to the Poly, ate at Kona and monorailed back. PO had a nice breakfast, but you'll have a bit of time to kill.

As far as the proximity to AKL, its probably more compairable than you think because you'll have to hop to a park and then get to the resort.

We were really looking to find something fun for the kids that would also give us some time by ourselves. It's too bad that these cruises don't depart from inside some of the parks, instead of from one of the resorts. You spend a lot of your time navigating transportation rather than actually getting to do something.

Do you think we'd be close enough to Downtown Disney to hop a bus over there/back?

We just explored the GF while they were away. We also took the time to just sit in their beutiful gardens for a bit. It made a nice change from all the tearing around!:confused3 We also grabbed breakfast at the counter service restaurant there.....

I also managed to pick up some Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers for the girls, since they weren't there checking over my shoulder every two seconds!:thumbsup2

If you haven't been to POR - its a really lovely resort. Have some breakfast, then stroll around the grounds - they are really lovely. You can go cane fishing off the dock, check out the pools. Its one of my favorite resorts in terms of the ambiance of the grounds.

I don't think you'll make it to DTD and back - as I recall, the boats from POR don't run to DTD that early in the morning (because nothing at DTD really opens until a little later) - but I could be wrong. I remember trying to do it early once and not being able to until closer to lunchtime.

To be safe we have never left. They do give you a pager for the "just in case". You can eat or also they have water crafts that you can rent at POR that are fun!

we had the same idea last year, DTD in peace while the younger kids are playing pirate and the older ones hit DQ. Unfortunately, the boat from POR to DTD doesn't start until a few hours after the pirate cruise. The boat driver actually asked, after seeing several parents wave good-bye and walk to the DTD boat ramp, how many of us wanted to go to DTD, then told us where to get the bus. We did take the bus, but it meant rushing to pick up a few things and getting right back on the bus to return to meet the kids. Oh, and DQ isn't open in the mornings either.

Thanks for telling me about the boat. I had called the POR and asked about the boat, and they said it leaves every 20 minutes. I asked when, exactly, because if the cruise itself takes 20 minutes and we just missed one, it'll take 40 minutes till the next one, and that would take up half the time we'd have.

She said the first one left at 9 a.m., but maybe she was mistaken. I'd rather take the experience of a couple of people who have BTDT and don't want to take the chance of not getting back in time. Plus, we'll be rushing around enough...don't need any more of that! :)

Thanks again.
