Hello
I am looking for some tips and a little help in some planning. This coming June our family is looking forward to spending a little time outside the park. We have been to Universal in the past so that would not be something we would like to do. We have reserved a car and plan on taking a couple of days checking out Vero Beach. We would like to check out some local restaurants and some local tourist spots in the Orlando area. We have heard that Bahama Breeze and Steak and Shake were good. Your thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

I would highly recommend a day at Discovery Cove....its so relaxing and completely amazing. Worth every penny and is the highlight of any trip.

I also would highly recommend SeaWorld. Its an awesome park and well worth a day (or more) if you can squeeze it in.

Admission to Discovery Cove includes 14 days of free admission to both SeaWorld and Aquatica (which is well worth a visit too).

The Outta Control Dinner Show at Wonderworks on I-Drive is great for evening entertainment for the whole family and is very, very affordable. Tony Brent is fabulous and will have you in stitches. The meal is all-you-can-eat and includes unlimited alcohol.

Mini golf is fun. We have golfed the courses at Pirates Cove, Hawaiian Rumble, Gator Golf & Adventure Park, and Volcano Island. If you are looking for which one we thought was best, I have listed them off in our order of favourites from most to least.

You could always add in a trip to Gatorland, an airboat ride, or maybe some orange picking at Showcase of Citrus.

We loved Steak & Shake....tried it on our August trip and fell in love with the milkshakes (but they are HUGE.........OMG my waistline still hasn't forgiven me!).

We always add in a ton of non-Disney Orlando attractions to our trips. There's just so much the area has to offer. You can check out the links in my signature for my trip reports.....the January report includes Discovery Cove, SeaWorld, Universal, IOA, Pirates Cove, Hawaiian Rumble, and Gator Golf. August's has Discovery Cove, Aquatica, Volcano Island mini golf, Steak & Shake, and the Outta Control Dinner Show. Lots of dining experiences also listed in both!

Holy Land Experience, SeaWorld, Discovery Cove, Cirque Du Soleii, Gatorland, Legoland, Aquatica, Arabian Knights Dinner and Show...
If you don't mind driving out of Orlando The Oakwood Smokehouse on 27 in Leesburg, Florida has the best ribs....

For eating out I would recommend Cheesecake Factory at Mall @ Millennia, unless you already have been????

Some other places we like to go / plan to go:-

I've always looked at visiting BOK Tower gardens - I think its somewhere between Orlando and Tampa.
boktowergardens.org

We also visit Winter Park and have a boat trip on the lakes scenicboattours.com

For a longer day trip we enjoy at trip to St Augustine
staugustinegovernment.com/visitors/nations-oldest-city.cfm
or
Fort Matanzas nps.gov/foma/index.htm

Being from England - I've never heard of Steak and Shake - but I now need to investigate those milkshakes :)

Have a great trip whatever you decide :)

Steak n Shake is the best!! We always eat there at least twice and when I post on fb that I am there, EVERYONE back home comments they are jealous. We don't have a Steak N Shake in PA

I would agree with Discovery Cove, It was expensive but SO worth the money, plus you get the passes to Seaworld which is so much fun!

I like just going to Downtown Disney and enjoying the shops and stores.

I agree with the Steak & Shake.....we don't have one either & love it there. Another hit for our family is Logan's Steakhouse, we don't have one of those either.
We thoroughly enjoyed Legoland this past summer. I had more pictures of 1 day at Legoland than the rest of the week total
