Where to go after my Olympus?

For the last 7 years, I have owned an Olympus C2020 Z, we have been very very happy with it but need to get a new camera.

I have been researching (and researching and researching and still researching) the replacement camera. I'm leaning toward a Fuji F40 (Actually anything in the F series). But I'm wondering if I'm overlooking another brand.

We have 2 small boys so the camera needs to be able to: take good indoor and outdoor photos, capture moments quickly, have a decent movie mode, and have IS. I was leaning toward a compact P & S I would like something small to fit in backpack/ds' diaper bag without it bogging me down.

Should I include a different brand in my search?

Unless something has changed without me knowing, Fuji does not offer IS. That said, they are known for having good high ISO performance compared to other p&s brands. Look for a larger sensor model with Fuji to take advantage of that. The larger ones are 1/1.7" or 1/1.8" where the smaller are 1/2.5".

BTW... your Oly is the one I really wanted when I got my first digital, an Oly D-460.

From what you're describing, the Fuji seems like the best choice. I think a lot of other cameras take as good, or better, pics in bright light, but no other small P&S can match the Fuji F's for low-light/high ISO.

Here's a review to help you make your decision: F40fd

We're probably going to order an F40fd next week... would probably go with an F31fd except that it doesn't take SD cards. From the reviews I've seen, it's generally an average-performing pocket digicam, the low-light performance is what really makes it stand out from the pack. Not that it's bad in other ways, but it seems that that is its big stand-out feature.

The F40fd even has an extra-large 1/1.6" sensor, but the extra size is balanced out by it having 8mp vs 6mp in their 1/1.7" sensor.
