Where to get cheap but durable ponchos?

So many people here post suggestions to wear ponchos in the parks in case of rain. As someone who got caught in a huge downpour at Magic Kingdom in 1989 when I was with my parents and sister, I know all too well how terrible the rain in Florida can be in the summer, and I am going in July with my husband and kids.

So where can I get inexpensive ponchos for 2 adults and 2 small kids? My sons are 3 and almost 1 now. So I need small sizes for them. They will be in a double stroller though, so will have more protection than we will just walking. Anywhere I can buy these online? Or just Wal-Mart or Target?

I buy them at my local everything's a dollar store. 2 in a package for $1 and I buy a lot of them and use them like tissue, don't bother drying or refolding just peel and toss in the closest trash can, rains again, pull out another, then refill the daypack at the end of each day

I'll let someone else field the itty-bitty poncho question, I've heard tying them up off the ground or cutting them off, I also know strollers can have rain covers bought to fit most brands

I just got mine for .99 at K-Mart, they had the same ones at Target. They were int ha camping section and kind of hard to notice. I bought them for my kids and guess I'll just cut them to fit since I couldn't find any kid sizes.

Babies R Us sells heavy plastic stroller covers that might help keep the rain off the kids too. The single ones were about $10 each the last time I bought one a couple of years ago.

I continue to use my Mickey ponchos from DW. When they rip, the CM's replace them.

I like the disposable ponchos because they are so small to carry around.

Not sure where you are, but in New England the store "Ocean State Job Lots" has great ponchos.... they are really more like pull-over rain coats. They have actual "sleeves" with elastic at wrists so they fit well and don't flop around. They also have drawstrings on the hoods for a better fit. They are paper thin, but don't rip particularly easily. DD and I took them to Busch Gardens with us last year and used them to stay dry on the water rides and during the daytime showers. They are only 88 cents and are packed up very small, so it is easy to carry several around with you. We either throw them away when we are done or (in the case of water rides) hand them off to others waiting in line. I just bought 10 or so for our upcoming family trip. I will keep at least two in everyone's fanny pack each day. One for the water rides plus a back-up in case of a shower.

I have used heavier "disposable" ponchos in the past and they were very thick and hard to refold into any kind of small, neat bundle. They took up way too much space in my bag, so I gave up on them. Plus, being a loose poncho, they were very "flappy and floppy". HTH.........................P

In my experience with ponchos, "cheap" and "durable" are mutually exclusive. I think the ones you can buy at WDW are very durable - we've taken them hone and reused them many times. But they are expensive, a pain to fold up and because they are thicker, they are SOOOO HOT! (I mean temperature, of course - not fashion! ). So I've taken to buying 2pack ponchos at our dollar store. I buy about 5 or 6 packs so I have 10 or 12 ponchos. They are so small and neatly folded that I can fit them in my bagallini messenger bag and then, if we get caught in rain we have them. And we then throw them away as we are leaving the park. Not very environmentally-conscious, but in a real downpour they work. I use them on KRR, too!

Me too. We buy several from the dollar store and then just throw them out after we use them. We'd rather do that than have to carry them around and dry them, etc. Plus I love how they are folded so tiny to start with - easy to fit in a pocket.

i just get the cheap ones at the dollar store. i carry two a day in our backpack (one for me and one for DH) and i throw a couple of gallon-sized ziploc bags in there too. if a thunderstorm rolls through and then goes away (as tends to happen a lot in florida!), then we can just take off the ponchos, shake them out and stuff them in the ziploc bags in case we need them again that day. a wet poncho's not the most comfortable thing to put on but it will keep you dry as long as you store it right.

about the smaller ponchos, i'm not sure. but i saw someone suggest cutting the bigger ones......seems logical to me.

At CVS they have rain ponchos, called "RAINES" by Totes. They have children and adult sizes they are $6.99 for the adults and $5.99 for the kids. They come in quite a few colors, they feel like the quality of the ones they sell at DisneyWorld, they are really nice. They also come with a little nylon netted pouch to store them in. I have seen them at all of our CVS stores.

I'll have to try Job Lot. Last year, I got mine at Target for a dollar and it worked pretty well. I save them for rain, though. I don't mind getting wet on water rides. I go in september and it's still pretty hot then.

Thank you so much PammyPoppins! I was looking for another place to find these in different colors, the only one's we found last time was at Wal-Mart, I only had to use my dd on her so I of course didn't return it, but returned all the rest of them because no one else wanted to use them. Besides the adults were either in dark blue or yellow, I was kinda looking for something a little more feminine for me. I can always go back and get the one's I got at Wal-mart, they were only like 4 something if I remember right, but your idea is waaay better, I'll remember that. Hope we have them here!

Now, the question is...how many throw-away ponchos would you suggest for a 5-day trip for 2 adults? That is, without having to re-wear the same one in one day should it rain twice. Would rather just bring a couple of them into the park, store them at the bottom of the stroller (or in our small diaper bag) and throw out when it is dry out again. As far as water rides, I don't mind getting wet. Kids are too little for KRR but DS3 has a slight chance at being tall enough for Splash mountain but we won't be using ponchos for that. July is hot enough there without covering up for a nice cool splash, even if it is just a small amount of water and we dry up before we get to the next attraction!

How much is the double stroller rain cover? I have one but it is for a single stroller. We are renting a double one through "A Baby's Best Friend" because we don't own a double, and therefore don't have the right size rain cover either.

If we can't get the double stroller rain cover we will get the disposable ponchos and cut them to fit the kids.

We bought Disney ponchos (back when you could still buy the yellow ones) and used them for years. We still have them and they are usable. Unfortunately we were at the park one evening when rain came up unexpectedly and we bought the new Disney clear ones. We don't mind folding them up and then drying them off when we get back to the hotel/car/whatever. I've tried using the locally available inexpensive ones -- very thin -- and they feel like we're wearing Saran wrap.

Just bought 6 at Wal-Mart for our Sept trip. I also bought my dd, 14, a lime green one from Totes....it's a child's but she is really thin. Thought it would be fun to be DIS green if it rains, which it will, in Sept!!!
