where to get a GOOD beer?

I was able to do this back in '06 and '07, but I went early in the day right after they opened. They had to pour the bottle into a giant plastic cup though as I guess you're not allowed to walk the WS with a glass bottle.

In '09 I wasn't allowed to purchase a beer at the Le Cellier podium. I don't know if it was because things were more crowded or that they finally cracked down

Hmmm... I think I'm still going to try!

I read some where that Biergarten at Germany in Epcot gives a huge beer that is suppose to be good. I dont know but read that on a review.

I was surprised they actually had it. I used to always get it at this German restaurant in L.A. and I randomly asked if they had it in the Biergarten. It was a glorious first day at Disney on our honeymoon!

Spaten Optimator is a 7.2%ABV Dopplebock. Description of the style from BeerAdvocate:
Bocks--you know, those beers with goats on the label--are relatively strong German lagers. Doppelbocks--as the name might suggest--are typically even stronger and contain enough malty goodness that they’ve been considered a meal in a glass for centuries. Generally they have a very full-bodied flavor and are darker than their little Bock brothers and sisters and a higher level of alcohol too. They range in color from dark amber to nearly black, and dark versions often have slight chocolate or roasted characters.

You'll get some good recommendations for beer on property here. I'll leave that to someone else as I'm still stinging over the disappearance of Ringnes from the Norway pavilion. This was like 15 years aqo, I guess I hold a grudge

As grocery stores go, Publix has a pretty reasonable selection of imports and microbrews. If you're staying on property and planning to have more than a couple of beers per day, I think a beer run would be cost effective.

I have the same grudge but I felt a little better when I found out that Ringnes is no longer imported into the US at all. I guess that Disney couldn't help it.

As a rule of thumb, the colder the state, the more beer comption. New Hampshire was second with 43.4 gallons per year followed by North Dakota and Montana. But, the number one beer consuming state is Nevada at 44 gallons per year. The least is Utah. This list is from Beer Institute Research.

Texas was an aberration at tenth. I hope that it's not because of Shiner.

That heavy beer is like eating a meal! I personally prefer a lighter pilsner or something similar. I'd normally go for Tennents at the Rose and Crown but it has been a while. I hope that they still have it.

I definately agree brocktoon. I just picked up a case of Troegs Mad Elf and I'm trying to keep DW out of it long enough to have a few bottles for Christmas.

It's not only our breweries, it's all the places we have to go and enjoy beer. I'm in the middle of nowhere, but I have two Union Jacks, and two other craft only bars with-in five miles. Plus, any bar in the area will at least keep a couple of local beers on tap, ie: victory, stoudts, dogfish (If I can drive there in three hours or less, it's local!). Plus then there are all the Philly bars.

Btw, kite and key is having a Russian river night on Dec 2. Pliny the elder on tap! I've never had it, but I hear so many people talk about it, I must go try it.

Speaking of beer, dw mentioned going to Easton to do the weyerbacher brewery tour. I wonder if she still wants too...

If you are willing to drive a little further north up in the lower hudson valley there is a great microbrewery called Captain Lawrence and a little further up in Kingston NY is Keegan Ales which has my all time favorite beer: Mothers Milk

As far as in Disney, always enjoy the Rose and Crown - still have my plastic 1/2 Yard I got beer in from there during one trip. If you travel there during the Food and Wine festival, there are a lot of extra beers at the kiosks and Sam Adams does a free seminar
