where to find "categories" for discover card?

All discover should see is that we spent $$ at Kohl's, it's not their business what we buy. And if you scan back a little, a PP said she just got a statement where Kohl's was coded "department store."

In my case, even if it didn't net 5%, I wouldn't be losing anything but a little time, as I'd still get the 1% whether it was at Home Depot or Kohl's (if for some reason Kohl's didn't qualify.) So it's not really any kind of risk in my case.

Unfortunately you can't get "Kohl's Cash" for buying gift cards (because how flaming awesome would that be?... <sigh?)

So my plan is to buy $1500 in gift cards (assuming I can find that many, but there are 2 Kohl's near here) and hopefully that should max out the 5%... then I'll put the rest of the cabinets straight onto the Discover, use the rewards as a statement credit, and pay the difference off before they can charge me a bunch of interest... should basically equate to a $115 discount on my already ridiculously-complicatedly-discounted cabinets. Yay! :)

You guys rock!

Thanks for the kind words! Only paying forward some of the wonderful money-saving tips I've found here myself.

Too bad Home Depot isn't a Discover Gift Card partner! Then you could've redeemed some of your current CashBack rewards and saved even more!

Oh, and don't be discouraged by paying with multiple g/c. I redeemed 8 $25 Sears cards (courtesy of CashBack) to pay for new tires. The clerk was puzzled & bemused until I explained that it was free money! Then, he was intrigued!!

Just wanted to close this out with an update. Yes, it worked! Thank you!

I bought $1500 in $50 gift cards at Kohl's and it just showed up on my statement as "Department Store" so I should get the 5% back! The fine print says it "should post within two billing cycles." The cashier at Kohl's was amused, my kitchen designer at HD, not so much... but oh well! :)

We got the 10% "closing incentive" from HD on the whole deal, the 5% back off the $1500, and 1% back from Discover and UPromise on the rest.

Now to pay all those off again with the loan we already got for this...

So there we go.

Anyone know how Walmart purchases are categorized? Most of our Walmarts are NOT super walmarts...I was looking at an old statement and it just comes up as "merchandise." I did have other stores that clearly came up as "supermarkets" so I'm trying to figure out what Walmart will be....
