Hi Everybody! I have been reading posts on here for about a year or so and finally started posting a little bit ago! I plan on going to WDW in August 2012! YAY! I will be going with my BF who has never been to WDW EVER! I have not been since 2003 so I feel like I have a lot to catch up on. I was just starting to brainstorm good places to eat and was wondering if anybody had good suggestions for a place to eat on the first night. I do not care where it is we are really big food people (I am a chef so we like anything!)

THANKS!

What resort do you plan on staying at or what park do you think you'll end up being at on that day? Personally, on our arrival days, we either eat at our resort, DTD or whatever park we head to first (usually EPCOT). We tend to not park hop or head to other resorts on our arrival day. With such a vague question, we would need more information to give you better suggestions.

There are so many places but we always love to start with Ohana's for dinner because it's like a big party, the food keeps coming & it's so good and we like to end our trip with a late breakfast at Crystal Palace!

So many choices!! Have fun planning!! :thumbsup2

Will you be on a dining plan? Are you looking for a "Disney Experience" or are you looking for outstanding food? What is your budget? Where are you staying? What time do you arrive? Are you going to a park that day?
There are more than 100 Table Service restaurants in WDW.
More info will help people advise you.

We are staying at pop. We will have a whole day at a park at this moment I thinking we will be at magic kingdom. I'm looking for something that will show the magic to him! O and we are getting the deluxe dining plan! Thanks for all the help!

Ohana dinner and Crystal Palace breakfast are two of my favorites! The Wave at the Contemporary is also really good :)

While it doesn't have the best food, if you really want to show the magic on day one, especially to someone who has never been, you can't go wrong with CRT for dinner. The princesses are a ton of fun with couples (my now-fiance and I have had some fantastic interactions with them, though I think she sometimes gets jealous). Not to mention I think everyone should eat in the castle at some point, so why not on his first night there? He may try to defend his masculinity by saying that CRT is rediculous and girly, but I assure you it'll be magical.

As far as other restaurants in the MK, we don't find too many of them to be magical, and, IMO the only ones with good food are The Plaza and LTT. Tony's and CP are both pretty awful food wise.

Citricos is by far the best food in the MK resort are that is on the dining plan. Artist Point is good too. Narcoossee's and California Grill are ok IMO, not great but not bad, but they both offer decent alternate views of Wishes, but you may not want him to see Wishes from another vantage point until he watches it from MSUSA first (which is and will always be the best view of Wishes).

OhthePain's suggestions are all good if you are at the MK for the day.
Do you fly the red eye the night before? Do you have a full day at the MK?
Another thought, totally depending on how tired you are going to be, is the Hoop Dee Doo Review at Fort Wilderness. It is totally "All Disney". It is a western themed dinner show that has been running 3 times a night for more than 30 years. It is wonderful, in our opinion!!!
It is "All You Care to Eat" dinner consisting of Fried Chicken, Ribs, Salad, Corn Bread, Baked Beans, Mashed Potatoes, Salad and Strawberry Shortcake for dessert. It certainly is not gourmet food, but it is good "down home" cooking. It includes beer, wine and sangria. The show is high energy, audience participation, singing, dancing and lots of corny jokes.
We have been with a core family, with adults only and with 3 generations and everyone has had a blast each time.
I highly recommend it. However I do hesitate to book it on our travel day. You have a 48 hour cancellation policy, so if your travel leaves you at risk I would suggest you do this on another day.
Good Luck

Yes we do fly the red eye and get in around 9am. I figured after check in and everything we can grab something to eat at the resort then head to MK!

What about California Grill for a wonderful dinner after spending the day at MK? :lovestruc
I am sure after spending the day he wil at MK he will get the feel for the Disney Magic :tinker: - Having a relaxing meal at CG would be a nice way to end the day and kick off the vacation! :)

I would ride the Monorail to the Contemporary Resort and have dinner at the California Grill on the top floor and time the dinner so we could watch the fireworks going off over the Magic Kingdom.

You have to make that reservation as soon as they are taking reservations, it fills up fast!

Since you're on DxDP, I would do signature the first night. Cali Grill or CRT are good choices. I'd do something at one of the monorail resorts so you won't have to travel far from MK and I think those restaurants are more impressive than any of the ones in MK. My BF and I were on DxDP at the end of September and did Tony's Town Square first night but found the food to be mediocre. Wished we would have done a better first night meal, because it was my BF's first WDW trip also!

Our first night is always dinner at Ohana (in the Polynesian).

Thanks everyone for the help! So I have planned two days at MK so the first night dinner after looking at the menus I think I like the idea of CG. Then on the second day at MK I think the breakfast at CRT looks fun and then definitely OHANA for dinner! Again thanks for all the suggestions!
