I was wondering, I have never been to HHI before and we are going in July with my DW, and two DD who are 8 and 6. Where does everyone eat. Can you please tell me some good places to eat. We are not seafood eaters. thanx

One Hot Mama's, Aunt Chilada's, Signe's Bakery (lunch) and our favorite.. Dye's Gullah Fixins (the absolute best southern homemade food)

Not seafood is hard for us, since we love seafood at HHI. However, for a change of pace, the casual Main Street Pub is a nice soup and sandwich place. Also, the British Open Pub, a little nicer, is in Wexford Village. And don't miss the gelato at Pino Gelato!

My in-laws live on HHI and I spend quit a bit of time there.

Our favorites for casual lunch or dinner:
- Fiesta Fresh (a real hidden gem...we eat here almost daily...few tourists know about it)
- Kenny B's French Quarter Cafe
- Ruan Thai
- Sea Shack
- TJ's Take & Bake Pizza

Our favorites for nicer, but not super-fancy dinner:
- Truffles Cafe or Grill (visit every trip)
- Redfish
- Seagrass Grill

Favorites for special dinner:
- Old Fort Pub
- CQ's
- Robert Irvine's Eat! (The guy from Dinner Impossible/Worst Cook in America - he lives on HHI)

You can see menus for many of these places at hhidining dot com.

We like Stacks which is VERY close to the resort. Not fancy but good breakfest and lunch. Won't eat up your wallet:lmao: Just google stacks hilton head for menu

Thank you all for your comments, they will come in handy. If there any more places they would be appreciated.:cool1:pirate:

I will second Old Fort Pub, CQs, Red Fish, and the British Open Pub. We also like Captain Woody's and Hudson's for a casual lunch. Alexander's in Palmetto Dunes is a favorite for us. We also had a very good meal recently at the Santa Fe Cafe.

One Hot Mama's, Aunt Chilada's, Signe's Bakery (lunch) and our favorite.. Dye's Gullah Fixins (the absolute best southern homemade food)

I am sorry to say Aunt Chilada's has gone downhill this year. The food and service have declined and we don't go there anymore (it used to be one of our favorites). I think One Hot Mama's is still good. Hugo's at Wexford is a good place with great lunch specials.

What about a good pizza. where do you all get a good pizza down there?

Taste in pizza is pretty subjective, but Mellow Mushroom is pretty good. There's a New York City-type place down near Coligny. And there's another place near the Piggly Wiggly - maybe Giuseppe's? - that a lot of people like.

We were at HHI in October, and are definitely not seafood fans.

We especially liked Guiseppis for pizza, one hot mamas and skull creek boathouse (we had sunday brunch)!

We were down there in August 2010...we tried Guiseppi's one night for pizza just to have a cheaper meal. It was OK pizza - not the BEST we've ever had but OK (there was about a 45 min. wait so it was popular). It was very close to the resort tho which was nice. I have a friend who always goes to that Mellow Mushroom place for pizza when she's there - I will try that next time. We enjoyed One Hot Mama's a lot (reasonably priced / casual BBQ). Truffles Cafe was another meal we enjoyed a lot - a little pricier / nicer / dressier but very good. (You can make reservations online.) We tried the Mexican place across the harbor from the resort one night when we just wanted to walk somewhere rather than drive & we thought it was awful. It was our worst meal all week - it really wasn't anything to brag over (and they charged us like $1 for a small side of sour cream but didn't tell us there would be an extra charge for it.).:headache: (I hate places that nickel & dime over stuff like that.) We also enjoyed Roastfish & Cornbread a lot one night for Low Country food (tried deep fried alligator). Tried to get into Dye's but she never called us back & I left several messages. Was never able to get anyone to answer the phone for a ressie so I said screw that. We didn't need the hassle - there were plenty of other places to eat. We also tried a place called the Alligator Grill that was pretty good but pretty pricey (but we had a coupon from restaurant.com which helped a lot). If / when we ever go back down there I think we would definitely go back to One Hot Mama's, Truffles Cafe and Roastfish & Cornbread.

I don't know what the story is with Dye's. I've heard that no one ever seems to answer the phone. We ate there once at lunch but we were the only ones in the place. It seemed rather awkward to me. Food was good though. I've never tried at dinner because I've heard you need reservations but if you can't get anyone on the phone how do you make the reservations. I've written it off our list as just a little too quirky.

thank you for all your replys. It seems to me the food is allright there really isn't anything that is the greatest. maybe we should do more cooking then ordering out! But then again we are on vacation. how is the weather in july is it hot and humid? I figured it would be. Should we bring our bikes?

Our last two visits we ate at Pazzo. Right across 278 from the resort. We walked there.

Very good thin crust Pizza. Never tried anything else they have, but, it was very good.

Also, another vote for One Hot Mommas and Signe's

Dh and I were just at HH in Oct. We love it there.

One of our favorite places is Skull Creek Boathouse. We never eat anywhere twice, especially in a place like HH where there are so many great restaurants, but ate there twice last trip we liked it so much. Beautiful view of the creek and very nice at sunset. Dh had fish both trips and said it was great. I had pork tenderloin and a sandwich the next time. Both were awesome. Good drinks too.

Roastfish and Cornbread is amazing. It's low country cooking. Great seafood, (for dh, I don't eat fish but had an amazing chicken stew). Best key lime pie I have ever had.

The Sage room. Our kayak guide who claimed to be a foodie recommended it. Very good, more upscale place in the back of a strip mall. It was our best meal of the week.

We are from Chicago so we like pizza. Guiseppes is ok. I would order it again, especially for a casual lunch or dinner. They had a nice menu of calzones and pasta as well.

Had brunch at One Hot Mamas. Very inexpensive as we had a Groupon for it. Ended spending more on tip than the meal. Looked like it would be great for dinner too.

Have fun. I miss HH and can't wait to get back.

July will be hot and humid! But wonderful!! We love HHI and go every June!! The water is so warm, well compared to the mid-atlantic at the same time, expect at least 80 degrees ocean temps!!

HHI is VERY bike friendly which is one of the reasons we love it. Practically the whole island is bike pathed! So bring your bikes or rent them there. The rental prices are reasonable.

We actually do a lot of eating in our villa. But that is because our kids are action oriented and cannot stand going out to eat alot. They rather be doing than sitting, waiting and eating. We do lots of easy meals and go out just a few times for the week. But you will certainly not go hungry on the island if you need to eat out, there are SOOO many restaurants on it that they hand you a thick guide book of places to eat at check-in.

Have fun, HHI is a great place!
