Where to eat at HHI

We spent the week between Christmas and New Years on HHI,and my husband thought that his best meal of the week was at Hilton Head Backyard. It was very casual, and the menu wasn't extensive, but the service was great and the food was very good. My favorite meal of the week was at Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House in Savanah. We all enjoyed one hot mommas BBQ. Sweet Carolines Cupcakes were heavily frosted but REALLY YUMMY. The food choices at the resort are somewhat limited- but there are Mickey waffles for breakfast, and Mickey ice cream bars for dessert, so what more could you ask for?

We are checking in this year on December 30 and was wondering how you all spent New Years Eve. Does anything special go on in the area?

DH just reminded me of one other place-Arby's! We don't have an Arby's at home anymore, so it's always a real treat for us to go to Arby's when we're there. It's also a treat for the pocketbook to eat one meal at Arby's. In case you can't find it without a huge sign-

What about the salty dog. I had a friend go last summer and he says the salty dog is his favorite. Also he said the crazy crab was good. Any body been to those places?

The restaurant at the Salty Dog Cafe isn't very good. The (original) outdoor bar is a great place to relax and people watch, but the restaurant was added (after others failed in the same location) to capitalize on the name. I don't recall any of the restaurants in that location ever being good.

Salty Dog used to be a "must-do" for us. The food wasn't outstanding but the view was pretty neat. However, when we were there a few months ago, I really got sticker shock when I looked at the menu. It used to be fairly casual and not too expensive. But no more sandwiches.

We ate at the Salty Dog Cafe a few weeks ago for lunch. We sat outside and they definitely had sandwiches on the menu. I had a shrimp po boy that was very good. We are returning in a few weeks with the kids (and some of their friends) and plan on taking them to the Salty Dog Cafe for lunch.

While we liked the vibe and drinks on the outside deck area at Salty Dog, we were also underwhelmed at the actual inside cafe. Afterwards we wished we had just sat outside for our full lunch...

I don't know what the story is with Dye's. I've heard that no one ever seems to answer the phone. We ate there once at lunch but we were the only ones in the place. It seemed rather awkward to me. Food was good though. I've never tried at dinner because I've heard you need reservations but if you can't get anyone on the phone how do you make the reservations. I've written it off our list as just a little too quirky.

Dye is running the restaurant largely on her own. Her sister and brother in law help during dinner, but for most of the day and for most of the prep work it is her and her alone. She often does not have time to answer the phone. She DOES pick up messages throughout the day however, so if you make a reservation for a meal she knows you are coming.

We enjoy asian food and really liked Ruan Thai and Hinoki.
For pizza we thought Giuseppe's was just OK, I would recommend going a little further for Mellow Mushroom.
Roastfish and Cornbread is also good, but we have found the service very slow and don't like that it is just first come first serve.
