Decided to go ahead with buyiing this now. BUT so many places out of stock or say shipping will take longer than we can wait. Needing it by the 3rd of March. Is it impossible?

Anyone know of a site that is reputable and can get it to us by then? Want to order it tomorrow.

I am googling but so many say out of stock!

Looks like no one has this one in stock. We may have to go with a different one but the cost is more!

You could also rent one for this trip, and buy the less expensive one when they are back in stock; don't know if this idea helps, but...

It looks that way but it isn't. I called them directly and was told they won't even ship those out until April. Unless he is trying to sell me the more expensive one. :rotfl:

The rentals are $13 a day? Seems a waste when I could buy a stroller! I did call one place that had $50 a week special needs strollers but they aren't doing it any more she said?

Is there another place that has simlar prices? I don't want to spend almost $100 for renting one!

I just checked orlandostrollerrentals.com and they are not inexpensive, but they did just get a new stroller that will allow 75 lbs. for $80 / wk. Also, they have a special needs stroller but it's a little more. One thing to think about is that if your kiddo doesn't fit in a regular stroller, they won't fit in the Disney single stroller either. (possibly not the new double, either... they're smaller than they used to be.)

the axiom jogger is the one he was telling me about. $100 off, still more than the maclaren one. Plus looks the pic makes it look huge! Going to look at the measurements of it.

WARNING ! ! ! WARNING ! ! ! WARNING ! ! !

I did some searching to various sites I order some of the special needs stuff for my classroom. And then I did a search in my Search Engine. I found the same thing you did. This is actually a significant concern to me. I looked at sites from England, Canada, and here in the US. All of them were listing the product as on Backorder. Some of them look like they have been on backorder status for six months. To me this looks like the product has either been discontinued or the company is working on a new version. Many of the sites are even starting to have the accessories on Backorder. I will caution you about buying this product if the future of the product is in question.

There are many other Special Needs strollers out there. Yes, many of them have price ranges above $1,000 but some have a price at $500 or under. I know the Maclaren Major Special Needs stroller is highly praised by parents of children with special needs, but that is partly because it has been around for a long time. If I recall correctly, Maclaren had a Special Needs stroller back when there was little else out there for older kids.

Currently you have brands like Convaid, Special Tomato, Baby Jogger, and a variety of lesser known names that are making Special needs Strollers. Finding the right thing for your daughter and your families needs is not necessarily something you want to do at the last minute as you are trying to pull off a Disney trip in what 13 days.

I recommend that you take a deep breath, a step back, and face some reality. 13 days before you leave is not a good time to try and find a multi-hundred dollar product designed to last you and your daughter several years. You can not just go into a store and try one out before buying it when it comes to these strollers like you can with baby strollers.

I recommend that you go to Orlando Stroller Rentals (if you still can) and rent the Special Needs stroller they have. It will take the stress off the trip, it will give you time to find a stroller that works for your family without feeling pressured to get what is in stock, and it will allow you and your daughter to find out if a stroller is what you really want at home for you 9 year old daughter. If you are only going to use it on vacation, then renting is the best way to go. You daughter may be fine in a stroller at Disney but after the trip when asked if she wants one for a trip to the mall, she may have a very different feeling about the issue. But she will not have an idea about this till she experiences a stroller at her current age. Just rent one for this trip and then look at the purchase concept when you get back. I know the $120 rental price is steep for week rental, but I suspect it will make the trip a lot less stressful for you and your DD.

If you are comfortable purchasing things on Ebay, you can generally find them there, often at a pretty good discount. I just got my son a Maclaren Major on Ebay. I recognize that they may be either discontinuing that model, or redesigning it, but for 200-300 bucks less than retail, well the old model will do for us. Now I just need to order a sunshade, while I can still find them. :)

Good thoughts! One good thing about being in close contact with our workers is that they know many other families. One family has this exact stroller we are thinking about. So I should have more details and possibly able to see the stroller in person prior to deciding. So far I have learned that the wheels have to come off to fold it up? which isn't exactly what would be best for us. I can't see that being good for anyone!

I am going to go look up the others that you mentioned.

You can rent the Mclaren special needs stroller from DiscountMobility in Orlando for 65 a week. I can't remember the website exactly but google it and you will find it. Hope it helps:wizard:

There is a link to that company and some others in the disABILITIES FAQs thread, in post #2.

2 of those rental companies on the list are not renting out any equipment they said. (Same person answered for both companies?) Different phone numbers rang to the same office.

I hate to pay over $50 to rent something that we can't keep. Seems such a waste! Still mulling it over though.

I have a very medically fragile but typical looking 7 year old. She has numerous issues (Brain Tumor/Cancer, Cortical dysplasia with intractible epilepsy, speech and developmental issues , hemiplegia etc..) Anyway, at 7 years old she is very aware that riding in strollers is for babies. The reason I bring this to your attention is that it was OK up until this year when she started Kindergarten and her assitant pushed her in a Convaid when she fatiqued. The kids asked her why she needed a stroller.. well, we never really needed to have that dicussion and we always called it 'her chair' .. so needless to say she has a Pediatric Sized Wheelchair now. You mentioned in a previous post that your Daughter was self concious and that you wanted to not discuss things in front of her, so , she may feel self concious about the stroller , especially if she is 8 and only needing it for this trip and hasn't used one recently. I think you would be almost better off renting or using a wheelchair as this could upset her. I found that the Disney Strollers, especially if you rent a double offer some quiet space and a good place for a child to 'escape' from the stress of Disney when needed.

The strollers do offer one thing that is valuable and that is the straps to keep them in.

We have the Mclaren and with the storage basket and sunshade it was well over 500.00. Our insurance covered 1/2 as medical equiptment and we used it for three years now. It was necessary as she can not walk independantly or safely for more than 5 minutes. However, is seems that you need this primarily for this trip and then it would probably collect dust or if your child is self concious about it not even want to use it at Disney . You can get use of Wheelchairs or transport help in the airports, and , I would probably look at the options. Unless money is no object and you feel you would use it more than for this, then I would look at other options if possible.

We have three.. the Safari Tilt (which we are taking on our April Disney Trip because it reclines fully if she needs it for Seizures) , the pediatric Wheelchair we leave at school, and I shuttle her around in the MClaren because it is light and folds for the car.

I just wanted to add that thought..

We have always ordered from adaptivemall.com

Call local vendors... they can usually get them quickly.

I showed dd pictures of older children (some much older than she is) in this type of chair. So she knows babies can't use it, it is much too big for a baby! It is the same as her 5 point harness car seat which she still uses. Much too big for babies!

Having a stroller big enough for her will allow us to get out more for walking, etc at home, not just at WDW. We had been borrowing a neighbor's double stroller ini the past for that. Or going when she went out.

Walking for dd tends to turn out to be running off which can be dangerous. So I tend to not want to go for walks with her. Going in and out of buildings is one thing but going for a hike, walk around the neighborhood, etc quickly becomes too dangerous as she could run out in the road. I am so excited to be getting this as we will be able to go out more and enjoy the sunshine! Oh and I can again go to the mall with dd!

I also expect that she will see many older kids in strollers at WDW. Reinforcing that it isn't just for babies! Which will help her to accept the stroller as the snow melts and we can go out for walks. Before now I didn't feel comfortable taking her to the park any more, most parks and play areas are not fenced in.

We did get help with the purchase and it will definitely be used! I had requested a wheelchair for her at the airport and felt bad about that ( in case someone else needed it). But trying to keep her from running off in a crowded airport seemed impossible unless she was seated. Now she will be in the stroller and juggling bags and dd will go much smoother.

If it is something you'll use more often then it is an ideal product. It is lightweight and easy to travel with. My point really was, if she is 8 and has never been in one (or using a different one now) she may feel self concious. Yes, you will see quite a few older kids using it at WDW, one of the reasons we bought it was because medical equiptment scared her at the time (they used a wheelchair for chemo) so we could not get something else. The reason we don't like it for her is that it does not recline so when she looses her muscle tone then it doesn't contain her well even with the harness.

I know you will be very pleased with it and it will make your trip easier. I was more concerned builiding off your previous posts and how it would make her feel.. When my typical kids got tired, they always felt ok with the rental strollers but didn't want to be put in a 'stroller' so since you DD was already self concious about things I thought I'd mention it, but , since you will have a lot of use for it.. I think it is a wonderful item to have.

I would have felt horrible at taking up a wheelchair for dd who has no mobility issues just in case someone else with mobility issues needed it. We have a handicapped parking pass for her too and I always feel bad using it. Yes we need it for safety. Yes she has meltdowns and it has been impossible in the past to get to our car parked at the end of the lot so we sat down on the sidewalk. No one has ever said anything to me about it but I hurry and do what we need to do and leave the3 handicapped parkinig just in case someone else needs to use it. It isn't every time that dd meltsdown but enough to make the handicapped parking essential! The older she gets, the harder it is to pick her up and carry her while she is thrashinig around.
