Hi everyone:

don't know if this questions go here, feel free to move it if it's in the wrong place.

I'll be going to disney this year and I want to know if you can get the international phone cards at disney. I've read that calling from the room it's expensive, so I would like to know about this cards and where to get them there?.

thank you in advance

Before you leave you can have your cell phone set up to make international calls, with my plan it is less than calling cards. You do NOT want to call from your room, rates are $$$$ You can buy international calling cards at the airport.

I use a prepaid cellphone here in mexico so they don't work in the us, that's why i'm wondering about the international phone cards, but thanks anyways, and anyone knows if I can buy them at disneyworld?

thanks, and not trying to be ungrateful or anything but what i'm trying to ask is if they sell this kind of cards at disney world, that's all?

I don't think I've seen any phone card for sale in Disney itself... but you can pick up a phone card that will work for calls from the US to Mexico in just about any gas station or mini-mart in the Orlando area.

I think your one cost that will still hit you is the hotel phone charge... A lot of hotels will still charge you anywhere from $0.75 to $1.50 just to use there phone to make your own calling card call.

There is another option as far as calling cards go, one that has worked for me in the past,
http://idt.net/personal/cards/
You can get the card on the internet... rates for calls from mexico range from $0.15 to $0.25 per minute depending on the part of mexico your calling... you would want o click on "global card".

If you want to avoid dealing with the hotel phones and possible charges, you could also buy a tracfone prepaid phone from any wal-mart in the US... if you do you can 1-800-706-3839 on the tracfone to make your calls back to mexico... I think you can pick up a tracfone for around 20-30 dollars... I don't know how much the phone cards are... I do understand that you can go to there web site and get the phone number on the phone set up as a Mexican or Canadian phone number so that people in those countries wouldn't have to dial long distance to contact you in the States... just another option you might consider.

OP, you may want to post your question on the Canada and UK boards as more travellers there will understand your needs. :)

Many phone cards for sale in America do not have a good rate at all. Perhaps someone there can actually suggest a card which you can buy on site, either at the airport or one of the Hess gas stations.

I used to purchase Walgreen's ones, and they had a decent per minute price, but you do need to do price comparisons

Also beware of prepaid phone cards that:
1. Have a per call charge or connect charge as well as a per minute charge,
2. Have a first minute charge somewhat higher than the charge per remaining minute.
3. Have an unusually large per call surcharge when you call from a pay phone or charge-a-call (tm) phone.
(actually all of the above essentially mean the same thing)

All phone cards are subject to a per call payphone surcharge of some sort.

You will have to do some math homework to see if small amounts of 1, 2, or 3 are not bothersome.

Also find out what access codes you need to dial to use the card from each country you will visit before leaving home.

I have had good luck abroad with house brand domestic (U.S.) phone cards bought on sale from stores like CVS or Walgreens. I even use these at home so I don't have to "have a long distance carrier" and pay a minimum long distance carrier monthly charge and tax and access fee.

I personally used iscards.com for calling from US to outside the country.
Calling from outside US to anywhere else we just bought a phone for $99 from mobal phone.
it's $99 for the phone and it has $99 calling card in it already so the phone is free. any additional min is charged to the card you used to buy the ph.
