I am at my wits end looking for affordable furniture for my teenage boys room.
i have 2 teen boys who are now getting longer than their beds and their feet are hitting the footboards. They are in need of new dressers as well and I'd like them to each have a desk to study at.

I 'm looking for 2 of each of the following: twin headboard (just want a headboard because of their height), 6 drawer dresser, nightstand, desk (preferably with a small hutch).

I have been to Ikea, Target, and every furniture store I can think of. Ikea has a nice dresser and nightstand, but no desks that match and they don't sell twinn headboards. Target has a great desk and hutch and side table that would make a great nightstand, but no 6 drawer dresser or headboard. the finishes would not match at all. When I go to better furnitures stores, if they have a complete set, they are for little boys and look too juvenile for my teens. They also usually have beds with footboards, and not just a headboard.

Help! I'm going nuts...I need to get this furniture picked out and bought - they don't have a place to put their clothes. Where should I go?

We had really good luck with JCPenny's online furniture for my son's room. Its a little unnerving to not actually see the pieces before buying them, but the stuff we picked out was pretty nice (especially for the price). I got a full sized bed set for my kid hoping it will last in through the teenage years.
I am looking now, and I don't see many just headboards for sale.
Good luck!

If you go into a store and check in the mattress section many times the headboard is sold separately. Definitely check JCpenny's but also check your local furniture stores. I know my first bedroom set came from Value City Furniture ( it was my first out of pocket 18 year old set ) and I got the whole room (dresser, headboard/bedframe, highboy thingy) for 799.99. It wasnt made to last forever but I got a good 10 years out of it. Anyways check your local furniture stores :)

With teens, I would not go too crazy over this. They will be going to college before too long? Most kids want a full or queen bed as they get older, and take it with them when they move out.

But I know how you feel, my 6'3" son hangs off his twin bed, too.

it was really a nice post. for small kids bunk bed is good example. in this type of bed two beds are stacked over one another. the children that are less than6 years of age should not sleep on the top of this bed. in legacy classic kids bunk bed there is a railing as well ladder.

Here's the bunkbed we just got our girls at Bob's Discount Furniture:
http://www.mybobs.com/Coloradostairwaybunkbed.aspx

It's nice and sturdy, and they came and set it up in no time at all. (We hit Ikea for matresses.)

You may not want bunkbeds, but our experience with Bob's has been great.

On the other hand, we ordered my son a bed from The Place for Furniture-- over Labor Day weekend. We still don't have a delivery. We have a date for December 4th. They know that if he's not sleeping on that bed the night of the 4th, the order is being cancelled on the 5th. I will NOT buy anything there again, regardless of the quality of the bed if and when it eventually arrives.

When I was looking for a piece of furniture recently, I was pleasantly suprised to find that Walmart.com had a ton of furniture. Tons more than the aisle display at the store. They had lots of bedroom stuff (we were looking for a file drawer to match our bedroom set). They had several brands too, like Sauder and Canopy (which is pretty solid stuff!). You might browse that and see if you can find what you need. Also, they do the site-to-store shipping free.

We have 2 boys and went directly from crib to Stanley Furniture (double beds) which we have loved. They are now 10 and 12 and furniture held up great.I picked stuff they could take to college. We got it from a local furniture place but had to look in a catalog as they don't keep alot of it in stock. I would bet they have twins but wouldn't stress about matching the headboard anyways. When they get to college they are going to want a double so it's only a temporary piece. There were tons more choices in the catalog and more grown up pieces. Perhaps also check Bassett or Ashley Furniture.

Start checking second hand furniture stores. Many times you can get great quality furniture at a fraction of the price. I bought a 5 drawer solid maple dresser once for $50.

Have you looked at the Malm beds at IKEA? These are more like platform beds and we have a queen one in our room. We put our box springs on the floor and then the mattress on top of that. You can also buy slats and just put the mattress on those. There are matching dressers and chests. You can also add side tables or we have these bookshelves that slide in and out behind the headboard.
I think the best thing about IKEA is that many of the different lines have matching wood because they make many of the items throughout the store in the same colors. We have the brown-black, which I have seen in desks, beds, dressers, etc.
