Also, buy for the long term. A six year old is going to be twelve before you blink (trust me - mine was four when we bought, and is about to turn eleven). If you are buying BLT because your kids LOVE the Magic Kingdom or VAKL because your four year old is mezmerized by the zoo - those days may not last forever. Buy the resort that your adult tastes will enjoy over the long term, that will provide a pool and environment and location that works for your family now, when they are tweens, when they are teenagers, and when you are empty nesters.

Remember that resales are available as well for the other resorts, and right now have a much lower up front cost (but generally fewer years).

That's what we did! We bought BLT because of proximately to MK and the AKV because of the look and huge kids waterplay area at kidnani. Splitting up the points during the initial buy-in (direct from disney) is a fairly new option. Previously, you had to buy all of your 160 min points at one resort. We were torn as well about where to buy until the guide said do both...this way due to banking, we will take one trip one year at BLT and the off years spend at AKV...or, for our trip next year, which I already booked, I wanted to sample both of our new "home resorts" so I booked 3 nights in MK view 1-bedroom and then 3 nights in an AKV studio savanna view at Kidnani!!!! We still had a few points left for 2011 already!

Our guide did say that at least one of the resorts has to be 100 points..just an option.

When did you buy? Has your contract closed yet? If not, and you really think this is something you are interested in, contact your guide and ask to have the contracts rewritten.

I think the split between two resorts is something fairly new, maybe over the last month. It seems to me that they are willing to allow things that haven't in the past to get people to "take the plunge". Given the economy, this may be a great move on Disney's part!

Ours too!!! It also happens to be my kids which made it nice for them that we bought BLT!

You could certainly call your guide and ask them about splitting between BLT and AKV (if that interests you).

When I added on at BLT in Feb, I changed my mind a few times and had not yet closed when the April 1st incentives came out. I was able to switch and get the new deal.

Thanks Sandi! Can you tell me how splitting works? Sorry for the questions, I am new to this. My husband & I have thought about buying into DVC for a long time & finally decided on BLT because we like staying at the Contemporary. I also like AKV because of the animals. I am now thinking that if I split my points, I can have 2 homes and therefore get reservations 11 months out at both places. How do the dues work? Any other info. will be great. Thanks.

We were just faced with the same choice and chose SSR. SSR fits us best considering DH loves to golf, the Treehouses make me giddy and I really enjoy a more condo style vs hotel style place to stay. That being said, it's very personal with lots of things to consider. Good luck!

I don't know how may points you are buying, but I have heard that people are getting their 160 split (ie: 100 BLT and 60 AKV).

If, you bought, say 100 BLT and 100 AKV, you could then book split stays and be able to book some nights at BLT and some at AKV at the 11 months.

You could also use banking and borrowing and alternate the resorts each year. For example, in 2009, you bank AKV, but borrow BLT. This gives you 200 BLT points for 2009 stay. Then in 2010, you would have 200 AKV points to use. Then just repeat the cycle.

The dues would be based on each resort and you would just be billed in January for each one.

And, from what others have posted, they are getting the incentives on the full amount of the purchase. So, you would be eligible for the pricer per point at the 200 level for the resorts.

If you are really interested in this, give your guide a call and tell him/her you are reading that people are splitting their purchase between AKV and BLT (and not having to do one at 160) and that you want to discuss that option, even if it means you he/she has to take it to a manager.

Thanks Sandi, that does help. I bought 200 points at BLT and now need to decide if I should split and have 100 at BLT & 100 at AKV. I'll call my guide in the morning.
