I want to buy an I-POD whilst in Orlando. Has anybody any experience of this and where is the best place to find one? Is it any cheaper than here?

I did quite a bit of research into ipods at Xmas time. Without exception, every shop sold them for the exact same price.

I found that Best Buy had the most knowledgeable staff and the best range.

I did end up buying mine at the Florida Mall, but only as we were there and it was Christmas Eve and I wanted it bad!! I got the 40gb ipod photo for $499.

The guarantee in the box was an international one anyway and I registered it in the UK when I got home, no problems. Got a Uk plug in "spare" charger for £14.99 when I got home, from dabs.com.

What is the photo one like

Its great. I have all my holiday photos on it and will use it to download my pictures to on our next trip.

I love the colour screen, its small but very good quality.

When you download music from itunes, it downloads artwork as well, so you get a little colour pic of the album cover showing when you play certain songs.

I love it and am very pleased with it.

If you look at the square PSU with American two pronged plug, pull it off (the small bit with the american pins) and you will see the standard two male figure of 8 socket used in UK -2.99 in maplins, but most people have loads of them around the house. The psu is 110-240 Volts.

I got an Ipod in the apple store at Mall of Mallenia. The staff were very helpful and the price was the same as everywhere else, they do have a wide range of accessories too! We just bought a US to UK adapter from Walmart to charge it!!

Hi,
The paranoid side of me wonders if Customs might have a bit of a clampdown in view of the Chancellor's annoucement in the Budget that he has applied to raise the allowance of goods that can be imported from outside the EU. Currently it's only £145 per person so any purchase in the USA might not be the bargain it seems if you have to pay duty and VAT. Just a thought.

Mick.

We got our DD's a couple of mini ipods from Best Buy. They had the best deal on when we bought them, back in Oct. We too took out the extended guarentee, which was a good thing as something went wrong with youngest DD's. DH rang them and they sent a cheque out to us staright away, for the full amount. I am sure it was a toll free number too from International callers.

You just buy it, chuck the box away and take it in your hand luggage. Likewise with clothes ( just put your new gear on) - who is to know?

It is up to you to prove that you have paid tax and duty on items you bring back home with you, rather than up to Customs & Excise to prove that duty is payable.

Rob

I have never been stopped at customs whenever I return to the UK.

Neither have I, and on a couple of occasions I was well over the limit. But if you are stopped, not having the packaging or receipt for an item will not stop C&E from charging VAT and import duty.

Regards

Rob

Being out of touch with the i-pod thang, what is the saving between the US and UK prices?

I want the i-pod that let's me play music for the cheapest price.

Assume that the US prices include all taxes?

:confused3
