Where to Book..Free Dining??

I have decided to do a completely unplanned splurge for my older dd's 16th birthday. I'm not getting her a car, yet, so I figure a short birthday trip is in order. We will arrive late on Aug 30, so we'll spend one night at Pop with no discount (unless AP rate comes out), then we'll move to somewhere for the next 4 nights. Now, the dilemma is POR or AKL. I am considering booking POR just because I know I can afford that. So, could I book POR and if the funds become available upgrade to AKL? Or, would it be better to book standard room at AKL and try to upgrade that room later? I just can't figure what would be best. Thanks!

I'd book at AKL if that's where you really want to stay, that way you will at least have a room there. And maybe you'll get a free upgrade to at least a pool view. Be sure and mention DD's birthday on the reservation, maybe that will help. For a special birthday I think AKL would be the way to go!

I think I may just do that. It's $1100 for 4 nights dining standard at AKL and $900 waterview, dining at POR. (That's with 1 day base since we are AP holders.)

Has anyone been able to upgrade a package within the 45 day mark?
