You have heard of someone having their ashes scattered?

As many of you know, FIL passed away this summer. While in the hospital, he sort of joked about being cremated(this part was serious) and being scatter over a race track in NH. We think he was somewhat serious about that part too. BIL is in a pit crew and FIL was always going to the races with him. He was really into the whole Nascar stuff. Well, we just found out last weekend BIL went up in his friends plane and dumped the ashes over the race track! I cant believe he actually did it.

So does anyone else have any strange places where they have to go to visit people?

I plan on being cremated and will leave instructions as to where I want to be scattered - in bits and pieces (no pun intended) - as follows:

a little bit off the coast of Maine
a little bit on my Dad's grave
a little bit on the beach at our lake house
a little bit IN the lake

and the rest of me in the campfire at the lake...........

Course I don't know who is going to "separate" me into all these zip lock bags.. Guess I'll make my son-in-law do it.. :teeth:

My Will specifies that my ashes are to be dropped over FENWAY PARK by plane:D :D :D . Hey, the SOX need the help of their "eternal" fans.

Of course, I KNOW that someday, the site will probably become a parking lot. Not to worry.................. I love the smell of rubber and oil too:cool:   ........

My lovely next door neighbours (a fantastic pair who were like family to us) passed away a couple of years ago and their ashes are scattered in their front and back gardens....they loved their home so much that that was the most appropriate place to scatter them.:)

The new owners have never been told this and it will always be our secret.;)

My Dad always told me to sprinkle him in Wrigley Field. That way he might actually be there someday when the Cubs win it all.

I believe I read recently of a father who died (or was at least seriously injured) when he fell off a mountain while scattering the ashes of his son.

Y'all be careful when you do that!!!

I plan on being scattered on Mackinac Island.
It is my favorite place to visit. Just hope someone will do it for me!

Interesting replies everyone! So people actually do that, huh? I always thought it was just something you saw on tv. I was so shocked when we found out BIL did it(he didnt even tell us:rolleyes: ).
I guess Ill have to request to be in WDW, maybe a little in each park and some on the Poly beach. Now theres heaven!

If it could be arranged, I'd like half of my ashes to be scattered somewhere in Idaho Springs, Colorado since that's where I lived when I was a baby. The other half over the Pacific Ocean would be good.

Kinky.;)

My mom used to say she wanted to have my dad cremated and have his ashes scattered by the front steps so that everytime she left the house she could stomp all over him.;) He convinced her to buy a plot instead.;)

My mom wanted to have her ashes scattered in the Ocean, so she had a better chance of coming back as a barracuda.....

So we did......

The amusing part of all this was she died in the middle of winter in Washington state, So my brothers and I flew there to do the deed.... we drove all up the coast (almost into Canada) looking for a pier that was open..... most were closed..... Finally we found an open one, which, unfortunaty was highly populated....

We debated about just dropping the bag..... but one brother said no, we have to open it up and let the ashes out....... The pier was 30 feet above the water on a windy day........ can you see where this is going........

Ashes everywhere...... the fisherman were the first to catch on to what was going on..... covered their faces and then the looks of horror from all the people as they too figured it out what had just occured....... after we dumped them we got the heck outta there and hit the first bar we found.......

Yup..... a very touching memorial indeed.......

I would love to be scattered over Lake Michigan or off of Mackinac Bridge.

Browneyes, my father has mentioned he wants to be laid to rest at the mall. That way he knows my mother will go to visit him almost daily. ;)

laurabearz, Im sorry, but you have me ROFL! I can just see the horrified fishermen when they realized.

I posted earlier that I want my ashes scattered on Mackinac Island. Mackinac Island is almost as magical as WDW.

When my father passed away, we donated his body to a program that cremates the remains and sends them back to you after 2 years. Well, at the 2 year mark, they called my mom to tell her they were sending the ashes. 8 weeks went by and.....no ashes. There was much speculation that the package had been lost and was sitting somewhere in....the dead letter office (of course). We did eventually get the ashes.

My father had requested they be returned to his home country of Latvia. My mother, uncle, brother, and I arranged the trip. A few days before we were to leave, my mother discovered that you needed a permit (or whatever) to transport bodily remains overseas. We didn't have one, and didn't have time to get one. So my uncle carried dear old dad in his carry on luggage. :o Mom was convinced Dad was going to be confiscated, but we made it through just fine.

Before he had gotten too ill to travel, Dad made several trips home and on one of them, he found the unmarked grave where we believed my grandfather had been buried when he was killed during the war. We went to that gravesite, and left some ashes there. Then we went to the family plot in his village, and left some ashes there. We scattered the rest of them in a grove of Birch trees adjacent to his family home.
