Where is the free popcorn?

And the smell will lure you in really quickly too!
We had a room on deck 5 and I was sucked into the smell of the fresh popcorn and I wasn't even hungry. :)
We had a room near the forward stairs on deck 5 and in a moment of perfect alignment, my daughter opened the door to the veranda, my son opened the door to our cabin and someone must have been coming in from outside on deck four and a gush of popcorn scented wind blew into our cabin.

Wow ...good thing no one was using the bathroom... near miss there. :) You do not want a gush of wind out of there.

The popcorn is probably just as aromatic.

Our favorite local theatre is a dine-in that serves a wide variety of food. Unless people are sitting very close, you cannot smell their meal. But, when a server brings in a fresh bowl of popcorn, you can smell it all over the theatre. We have occasionally taken pool deck food into the theatre on the ship. The only thing that bothers me, is when people leave the theatre and don't take their trays and trash with them.

Rice crispies from breakfast buffett along with cookies and drinks from pool deck work for me instead of popcorn but I agree that smells drives me mental.

I don't see why you wouldn't bring food besides popcorn into the theater. Many of the major theaters have restaurants inside and alcohol sales as well. If the smell offends, then maybe you are in the wrong place?

Tends to smell a lot though. Popcorn is a standard movie type snack.

I wouldnt do that as (1) There is so much food on the ship I can go the length of a show or movie without it, (2) consideration for fellow cruisers.

I don't see a problem bringing food from the pool deck into the theater. Many of the theaters around me sell pizza, burgers and fries, and other non-traditional movie theater foods.

And that therein is the problem.
Chain movie theatres have stooped to providing pizza, burgers and fries, and other non-traditional movie theater foods to boost income on the desires of some that wished they could have them, but knew it wasn't appropriate theater food and those that wanted them no matter what. They paid for the ticket right?
Instead of a regular burger, how would a giro be perceived?

And there are those left that still remember soda and popcorn being the NICE smells of going to the movie theater.
I say NICE as smoking is banned and not a nice smell for everyone.

Just because the movie chains have lowered their bar, to generate profits, and then the independent movie theaters, should that mean people have to lower their standard of conduct either? Or buy these products? Or in the case of dcl, take them with them?

It's just the now norm of "I want this, so if you don't like it... Whatever" attitude that comes with personal beliefs and a lack of consideration for anyone else.

And it isn't just the movie theaters to blame. the movie companies and the distributers that Disney own, squeeze everything they possibly out of the them to make more profit.

On day 1 at the movies buy the popcorn in the big plastic collectors cup. When empty, clean it out. Then you can use it at the drink station as a pitcher full of ice and/or your favorite soda/lemonade/tea. One guy saw me doing this and said "Why the hell didn't I think of that?".

Lol. So funny and a great idea!

Love it! For over 25 years, theaters have been serving food and beverages. Nachos, hot dogs, candy, popcorn.

Don't see the mindset that says, "I want this, so if you don't like it whatever...

I see the mindset. Your on vacation and this is what is normal now and has been for many years. Nothing new.

Since when is offering upgraded food choices "lowering the bar"? I first experienced this in theaters over 25 years ago. It's not lack of consideration for others. It's enjoying what is commonly available at theaters.

My mom worked for a classic movie theater that you could join, and they served all kinds of foods. And this was the early 80s.

Hot dogs and nachos smell funky too, but they've been served for ages at theaters.

Personally I think fries and food like that should be banned on the WDT and BV Cinema. It's distracting, it smells, people chopping away whilst you want to be entertained and focused. And it's not that people can go hungry or need it. If you eat at Main then show there is no need. I think as its Included/ free people just do it but even with the popcorn in concierge I wouldn't eat it on the shows.

We have a great art deco theater in town that goes back to the 20's. It has been restored and the seats mostly removed and spread out (fewer of course) and small tables grouped with the chairs. They serve almost a full menu and have full bar service. We usually go with friends, 4 or 6, arrive about 1800 and have a drink or two and then dinner. The movie starts about 1900 and we either enjoy another drink or have popcorn, whatever.

Now granted the movies shown, are usually about 3 months after they are released, but that is fine. Over all it is a great, comfortable and enjoyable way to have dinner and see a recent movie.

Personally, I think babies should be banned in the WDT and BV cinema. They are distracting, sometimes they smell, and people are taking care of their babies whilst you want to be entertained and focused. It's not that the babies need it, they won't even remember the show. As the nursery is available, there is no need to bring the baby to the show. I think because babies are part of the family people just do it, but even if I was sailing in concierge I wouldn't bring my baby to a show.

Popcorn smells too. And fries and burgers are a whole lot quieter to eat than popcorn.

I think if you go to a movie popcorn is traditional, however in my post I did say clearly...I wouldn't eat popcorn in there either, even if concierge give it.

Popcorn is to me a low smell, slightly sweet only noticeable if you want to notice it. Fries and burgers smell its strong and the munch munch much is very off putting.

Burgers with toppings gurkins pickle lettuce all makes a far louder noise than small handfuls of popcorn.

The is good 24/7 on the ship, for ' one hour' on a show, or 90 mins on a film, people will not stave, they do not need to bring down ' free' fries and be disrespectful to everyone else.

Interesting everyone on main would have just eaten before a show, do really no need at all.

Fries and what not are snack foods. Disney Fantasy has it all wrong, maybe that's what they want to do when they are at a movie. Why should you stop that? When a majority of people want to take something into the theater. Because that is the norm. If you find the smell offensive, maybe you should forgo the movie and use a theater that only serves popcorn. If that even exists.

OK you are entitled to your view, but to say I am all wrong is stopping my own view, these boards reflect everyone's opinion. I have been in the WDT and one family came in with fires and burgers, it stunk out the area, and everyone nearby was complaining thinking it was rude and disrespectful, I was not the only one to think that. I think one went to a CM to complain.

I assume you think taking photos during the show us OK as well?

People can eat 24/7 on the ship, they can go 60 minutes without eating. Candy and popcorn cause little inconvenience to others, eating fries through a performance of Twice charmed, is downright rude.

Just to say I think your analogy here might not be appropriate. Smoking is banned for health reasons not for the smell (although personally I hate the smell too).

As for food smells, as long as people aren't disturbing my ears I don't have a problem with people bringing in other types of food. Personally the smell of fish makes me gag but doesn't mean I would begrudge someone else eating it next to me as long as they weren't throwing it in my face. I think as long as people are sensible and not disturbing others then its OK although I can understand why some food (pepperoni pizza comes to mind) might stink out somewhere. I think most people are sensible with food for the theatre and don't bring silly stuff in from my experience.

Personally I find the WDT a bit different to BT as its a live show and therefore you are also possibly disturbing the actors as well. I would be inclined to limit what I took in there to snack food but as others have said even these can be loud too and smell (doritos for instance). But banning any snacking just seems silly as it can be a useful distraction for bored kids etc.

A very sensible and balanced post.

I recall going to Music concerts, Rock Concerts, gigs, and wanting to see a performer, and just hearing someone eating next to me, or even then singing out of tune, to it, when I want to focus on the artist.

In the WDT I want to focus on the show, you get drinks there, understood, its quite, its traditional, it doesn't smell it doesn't put anyone off. Someone bringing in plates of fries all the way from deck 9 aft to deck 4 forward, and chomp chomp chomp whilst you want to focus on the performers, is just not right. In particular as mentioned a few times, there is food 24/7 there, you can go 60>90 mins without eating!!!
