Where is the best place to purchase a vacation package?

First of all, you will almost always get "a better rate" by NOT booking a package, but rather by purchasing your hotel and tickets separately.

That said, I would recommend trying Dreams Unlimited, a major sponsor of this site. www.dreamsunlimited.com

You will make your request online and communicate with them via e-mail. They will work hard to find you the best price and then will keep working to check to see if the price can go down even further.

I would second the use of Dreams Unlimited. The do a fine job and will make your priority seatings if you wish. It's a first class outfit.

You definitely do much better by doing it yourself. Dreams Unlimited also gets great reviews by helping the do-it-yourselfer. My DW and I have now booked 4 trips doing it ouselves and we have gotten exactly what we wanted for flights, transportation, resorts and park tickets and we save quite a bit of money. It does take a little effort but that's half the fun of the trip! The packages we have looked into seem to charge everyone staying in the room separately for each night and they usually throw in things we don't really want (like tickets to Wide World of Sports, etc.). Why get a package when you can book a Disney Moderate Resort for $100/night (total), choose your own hopper passes, get the flights you really want and decide between a rental car or towncar service? Try it; you'll like it.

i used AAA to book it, and by using AAA sometimes you can get extra 'perks', just little things, like they have an area where you can stop in and get a drink at the magic kingdom. TripleA also gets a slight discount on tickets.
