We are going to Disney in March and want to take our boys to a character meal and I didn't realize how many there are to choose from. Our boys are almost 3 and 1. Can anyone give us any advice on choosing?

Is it better to do dinner or breakfast? We aren't big breakfast people, but if it seems to be a better choice we will do breakfast. Are they only at certain times? ie. everyone shows up at 8 a.m. for breakfast

Thanks for any help!

I prefer dinners since morning is usually the best time for rides. I'm also not a big breakfast food eater. For your boys, I'd do Chef Mickey's and Crystal Palace. Both are buffets and have tons of stuff to choose from.

What characters do your boys like the most? You can choose based on which characters are at a particular location.

Here are some things to think about:

Which characters would you like to see? Mickey & friends, Pooh or Princesses are your choices.

Do you want breakfast or dinner (some people like a late breakfast - i.e. brunch)?

Where are you going to be - do you want a hotel meal or a park meal? Cape May is out of the way if you are staying at WL and spending most of your time in the MK, but is a good choice if you are staying near Epcot and spending time at Epcot/MGM. AK has a character meal - you don't want to go there and then have to get yourself to the other end of the property for the day, but its a good choice if you are planning on spending the morning at AK.

Do you want a buffet, pre-plated or family style? (with little kids not doing buffets is pretty high on my list).

Special question for Princess fans? Is it worth getting up and dialing the phone early for Cindy's?

Breakfast is less expensive, which is why many do breakfast. I would suggest Crystal Palace at the Magic Kingdom. It is a buffet with Pooh and friends. They also serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, which will give you more options.

If it is open by then, Garden Grille has a great character lunch and dinner. It features Farmer Mickey and friends (they are usually Chip and Dale and Pluto). The food is great, served family style and is all you care to eat!

Our favorite character dinner is Garden Grill in Epcot. It is in a revolving restaurant, and the booths (large) face out to the "windows" which revolve around the land. So when the characters aren't at your table, the little ones have something interesting to look at that changes (slowly). You will see a farm with animals, house, dog, chickens, etc. You will see a prarie with buffalo and a wild fire off in the distance, and many other things.

Also, becuase the booths don't face each other, the Character interaction is very much your table, your kids, your turn. Other kids aren't sitting right next to you trying to get Mickey's attention, and your kids aren't pouting when Mickey is visiting at other tables. I mean you can see them when they are right next to you, but it isn't like a large open dining room that distracts the kids. And the characters came by our table several times during one sitting.

The food is family style, so you can order several things. London Broil, Fried Chicken, I think catfish, Mashed Potatoes, veggies, and there is a good selection for picky kids (I know, I have one!!). And you can have the server bring back as much as you want of any of the items.

The atmosphere is relaxed, and customers are dressed very casually.

The kids got up and danced with Chip and Dale, and sang Who let the dogs out with Pluto, and Mickey is always special!!!

Check it out at the dinner reviews and see what you think.

one small caveat, the lands is getting refurbished now until early March (I think), and it may not be open when you are going. Call the PS number and ask if you are interested in this restaurant. Also, I would make sure it is going to be the "same" or different.....

Thanks everyone for the advice! The boys like Mickey better than Pooh, but maybe we will do both! My oldest loves Tigger! Since we are going in March should I make reservations now? I have read in several posts that it may start to get crowded around this time of the year.

Thanka again everyone!

We thought Crystal Palace was great. We did like Chef Mickey's but not as good as crystal Palace. By the way Tigger spent time at our table when my husband had his Tigger hat on and shirt. And CP I thought the Characters spent more time with people. And the food was much better. We had dinner at both. We are going back to CP for breakfast in April.
Think about going to both places. Maybe one for dinner and one for breakfast.
