So we are getting ready to leave for Disney in a few weeks  and my daughter wanted me to find out where the best ice cream and the best frozen yogurt was?:scratchin We always have Haagen daz in downtown disney but are there any others that you might recommend? We don't mind :drive: off site either. Thanks!!!

Well I havent gone around and tried all the ice cream but I did have an ice cream sundae from the Gibson ice cream place on main street last year and it was very good.

Mainstreet Ice Cream at Gibson! Yum!!! Hard packed strawberry for me. The the view is great...people watching on, maybe a parade...

Farrell's looks very good, we will have to give it a try. Thank you Zanderman!

Excited to try the new Gibson Parlor too, have never had it before because it has always been so busy.

Does anyone know if Ghiradelli (spelling ?) is going to have ice cream or is it just a soda shop?

I remember reading about some ice cream parlor up by hollywood, I think it is Disney, or I was under the impression it was. Does anyone know what I am talking about?:confused3

Thank you!

Thank you!

Maybe ice cream at Disney tastes so good just because you are at Disney. The ice cream at Gibson Girl is just Dreyer's/Edy's which you can get at the grocery store.

I think I read somewhere that the Ghirardelli shop will serve ice cream.

The Disney Soda Fountain and Studio Store in Hollywood is located next door to the El Capitan Theater. I haven't been there, but it sounds fun.

I was going to say this! I love the Ghirardelli shop in Monterey. They make amazing sundaes. They are set to open June 3rd in DCA, I believe. Yummy!

Thank you!

We had lunch and ice cream desserts at Disney Soda Fountain in Hollywood. Fun, good food and adjacent to El Capitan Theater. It was busy and Disney like but not like in the Parks themselves. Bathrooms were not very nice. I would not go out of my way to go again unless we were there.

I don't think anything at DLR can come close to Farrell's. Its an old fashioned ice cream parlor brought back from its glory days of the 1970's. The jokes and entertainment from the wait staff makes it a great experience. Just don't try to go late afternoon or evenings especially weekends. The line for a table can easily be 1 hour. We went midweek around 11am and walked right in. VERY popular place!!

Farrell's is awesome but it is a bit of a drive from the park. If you want something real good that is within walking distance I would advise you to go to the Cold Stone Creamery right across the street!

I think it was called the rocky mountain chocolate factory or something, it was at the garden walk.

I was soooo excited because they had New Zealand ice cream including the fantastic Hokey Pokey flavor. This was so exciting for me because this was the most popular flavor in New Zealand when I was there a long time ago, I have been searching for it ever since and found it here! So awesome!

There is a Cold Stone Creamery at Park Vue Inn. Cake Batter ice cream...yummm.

I agree, Butterfly, Cold Stone Creamery has good ice cream. I love the fact you pick out the ice cream and what you want mixed into it. Right there in front of you, they mix it right in. Yummy!!!!

And don't forget the beloved Mickey Ice Cream Bars!! Yummo!!! I can't figure out why these are sooo darn good, but they are perfect on a nice hot summer day! I can't wait to try the sundaes at Ghirardelli's!

Gibson Girl is a must for us every trip. I use to avoid it due to the line as well, and then one day decided to just stick it out. It was so worth it!

Now that it is remodeled and just re-opening, it will be even better. They fixed the line issue I hear by remodeling the line area and staffing it with more cash registers.

The is nothing like a mint chip ice cream in a choclate dipped waffle cone on a warm summer night. Add in some fireworks and 2 goofy daughters, and you have a recipe for pure happiness right there.:goodvibes

I second or third Farrells. They haven't had one here for 25-30 years but we use to go for all the birthdays. To be honest, I don't remember if the ice cream was good or not, it was the atmosphere I remember. They use to make you stand up and tell everyone you finished the pig trough or banging the drum while they carried out a zoo to a table.
