Where is all the budget stuff?

I love the budget board. I have learned so much over the last couple of years. I spend more time on this board than I care to admit leading up to Black Friday. Believe it or not, you can learn from some of these random threads. These people know how to save a buck!

I see, no one cares about being able to easily access posts and therefore we should all be so happy. OK. You all completely miss the point of giving forums themes and titles. I see that ignorance is really bliss.
There are so many posts that it would be impossible for it to work that way. Just watch the thread and read what interests you and ignore what doesn't. If you have specific questions, ask them - people are happy to help.

As of right now, there are only 2 threads on the first page that aren't budget related. That's 94% that are on topic.

OP - take a look at the second thread from the top of this board, especially the last page. It answers your question. This board, simply by choice of the moderators and vocal participants, has been allowed to morph into a separate, somewhat insular "community" for those that feel the actual DIS Community Board (where many of these posts really belong) is too ascerbic. I guess they feel "safer" here because it is assumed that everybody here is somewhat like-minded; very different from the real Community Board.

Funny thing is, the Mods asked this board if it wanted a "Budget Community Subforum" and the vast majority of respondents said no because it would dilute the feeling of "community" they had already established here. OK, whatever. :confused3 But FWIW, I agree with your objective assessment. Your assertions though have brought out the need for Budget Board veterans to defend a turf they have carefully cultivated.

OP, I don't think you're going to win this one. This same question comes up occasionally and it's always answered in the same way.

If you want to learn ways to save money, this is the place. Ignore what doesn't seem relevant to your needs, ask questions if you have specific ones, and just go with the flow.

If you don't like the content of this board, you're welcome to skip what doesn't interest you.

The irony of posting an off-topic complaint about all the off-topic threads isn't lost on you, I hope.

If you want to win people over to your point of view, it might be wise not to insult them. If you have decided you *won't* win people over, it's still not a good idea to close with insults.

As a boss, you would certainly discourage that behavior in your employees as it could easily lose you money and customers (budget related comment).

I recall from an eBay discussion board I used to frequent that there would occasionally be an uproar about the off-topic posts. At some point it was decided that if off-topics were allowed, the experts in the subject would tend to hang out there more because it was more entertaining. Thus, they were constantly there and ready to answer on-topic questions. If there were no off-topic, the boards would slow, the regulars would visit less often, and questions would take longer to be answered. I see this place the same way. And I also agree that many that might seem off-topic are still somewhat on-topic; and that some of us may spend more money than save when people share coupons and sales ;)

It's not like there are brand new ways to save at Disney coming up every day. There are only so many threads needed about extra buns, YES tickets, free ice water, etc.

The boards do switch up sometimes. I remember a few years ago when the budget board had lots of investing questions, around Christmas time you get lots of shopping questions. These may not be what you are looking for, but if you don't see what you are interested in, ask you own questions. I love when people post sale information. I have bought way too many things because someone posted a great sale on the budget board!

Just today I have checked out Thirty-one and Allure and Free Dining. Had I bought everything, I would have really busted my budget, but I love to be able to check the sales out!

Form of……a happy Budget Boarder who has learned so very much from this board and I love it just as it is and I get that not everyone will understand right away exactly what goes on here and that it may not always be directly related to Disney!

This thread needs to stay focused on Disney saving tips and ideas that is why we would come here. Years ago the budget board was specifically used for sharing ideas to help for all "Disney Vacations" and how to get the most for your money while on Vacation. Today it's just a bunch of non Disney related topics that nobody really wants to see here. Why would anyone come to a Disney Forum to learn how budget for general living anyway?

Ummmm because we want to. :confused3

Saving money on other thing allows some of us to afford Disney.

If you don't know why people come here, why do you bother posting?

I respond to and sometimes post threads that may be "off-topic" because there are a lot of like-minded, savvy people on this forum and I've learned a lot. If it's not your cup of tea, why whine?

Years ago, there wasn't a Codes and Rates subforum on the Resorts board. Members would come to this board instead of the TPAS to find out how to upgrade tickets or where to buy them for less than the gate price. Car rental discounts became the domain of the Transportation board, instead of the Budget board. There were more discounts: remember the Magic Key Club? AAA discounts? Length of Stay passes?

So what was left for a fractured Budget board that had the heart carved out of it? All the "stuff" that none of the other board moderators wanted to deal with...fridge swaps, stroller swaps, Photopass shares and threads on how to eat cheap in Disney. And once the swaps and shares died off, it left very little for this board to cover that wasn't being discussed elsewhere on this forum. So the board reinvented itself and evolved into community it has become.

Now, you can complain about all of the "off topic" threads that you think you see on here. But the truth is that if you moved all of those "off topic" discussions to the Community board, you would also have to move threads about room discounts to the Resorts board, discussions about tickets should go over to the TPAS, posts about CC rewards should be moved to the Rewards board, and so on. In the end, you would end up with no discussion on the Budget board at all and just a bunch of redirects to other boards. And in the process, the webmasters would lose a loyal following on one of their busier boards.

Because it's a fun way to get different points of view?

Many of us know Disney inside and out. The people here answer the Disney budget questions.

The same questions get asked over and over and get answered over and over.

If it wasn't for the bit of camaraderie that exists, many of the experts would go elsewhere.

And if you just want a buttonhole budget, call Disney or any travel agent. They'll give you a quote and you can drop it in your budget.

We like to listen and talk to one another here. There are lots of people who can speak intelligently on many subjects.

I've used their comments to further investigate ideas and to save money and make money.

Here I learned all kinds of little twists to find a dollar. Of course, you have not learned how to make this work for you yet.

So, I'll repeat what a few others have asked? What is it you would like to know? Put your questions out there.

This is not just a list for you to sift through. Behind every answer there is a living breathing person - humans!

And some of us have been here for years, many years.
