Where in the World are Y'all!!!

Hi everyone!! :yay: I'm in Cincinnati, OH. We have lots of 5k's around here, there's usually one every weekend. As far as longer distances, we have:
Heart Mini-Marathon 15K in March
Flying Pig 10K, half, and full marathons which is May 6th and 7th
State to State half and full marathons in the fall
Thanksgiving Day 10K on Thanksgiving morning.
Wright Patterson Air Force Base (actually in Dayton, OH) half and full
marathons in September

Dave--I love running in North Park!! Whenever Stephen and I are in Pittsburgh for a run, that's were we head.

I live just east of Canton, Ohio. I'm originally from SE Pennsylvania, having moved to Ohio straight out of college. Since I'm fairly new to this whole running thing, I'm still learning of local races. Last year, I only did a local 10K, run by our YMCA, and the Towpath 1/2Marathon, held close by Boston Mills Ski Resort, close to Cleveland.

So far this year, I'm signed up for the Flying Pig, considering the Columbus Distance Classic, and planning to try my first marathon in October; perhaps the Columbus Marathon. I'm signed up for the Goofy in Jan '08.

I'm in Sarasota, FL, between Duane and Angie though a LOT closer to Angie. I was born and raised where Duane lives and in the Edison parade in high school :)

We have the Sarasota half and full marathons coming up in 3 weeks. There's also a Muddy Buddy scheduled for May that we're planning to go watch.

Like Angie said, there are tons of races around here, though the calendar gets a bit dry June through August :beach:

I'm back in a suburb of Little Rock, AR, after a 4 year hiatus in Appleton, WI.
As far as races go, there's tons of shorter distances and the Little Rock Marathon/Half Marathon/Relay in march--and I'm trying a newer race next weekend The River Trail 15K (it's where I do most of my training runs). Also, if you ever visit the area, you gotta make sure to visit the longest pedestrian bridge--it spans the Arkansas River.

Angie and Mel--I'll be heading your way in 8 weeks!!! Can't wait for my vacation in Siesta Key!!!:cool1:

Denny--My DH grew up in Canton--Jackson Township to be exact--his whole family still lives there--we spend at least one week a year up in your neck of the woods!

I live in Wellesley, Massachusetts, about 3 feet away from that Red Dragon chick.

There are a large number of 5K's in the summer around here, but honestly not much longer stuff. I (and maybe Martha) will run the James Joyce Ramble 10K at the end of April, complete with actors in period costume along the course reading the works of Joyce. It's a nice sized race with a nice (loop) course.

The Boston Athletic Association has a half marathon in mid October, and I plan to run it, but it's pretty serious as they sweep the course at 11:30 per mile pace. After doing enough long time training last fall, but not enough long and intense training, this will be a good one for me to run.

I'll be in Boulder for 7 weeks this summer, and hope to get a couple of races, once my body adjusts to the altitude. There was a big article in today's Denver Post about Boulder being a major running scene, and I am going to take advantage of it as best I can. Too bad any benefits someone as old as me would get from altitude training would be long gone by January 13 2008.

I would like a race somewhere around 10 miles in late November or early December, but by then most of the running has dried up around here. If this list gets longer and deeper maybe I'll make a road trip for a road race.

Best to all.

Craig

I know noone lives near me because we only have about 150 full time residents here. lol:rotfl: Anyway I'm in Copper Mountain..about 19 miles east of Vail. The next walk I'm doing is on March 10th and it's a snowshoe walk/race for breast cancer. If anyone is visiting Summit County be sure to email me.;)

Terri,

Is Leslie Sansome's fitness center near you? She's the "Walk Away the Pounds" author.

Philly, PA here.

Anybody looking for a good training run should come to Philly for the Broad Street Run. It's a 10-miler, straight down Broad Street from start to finish (well, this are two small turns, just to get you around City Hall). The course is flat, slightly downhill.

The race is always held the 1st Sunday in May (kills me because I can't do the Minnie or the Flying Pig). If you come, there's a two day Expo at Lincoln Financial Field (Home of the Eagles) on Friday and Saturday. Stop by and say I. I'm the Expo Director.

Boulder has a fun 10k on Memorial weekend called the Bolder Boulder, it's a blast. There is also a good one in Sept. called Backroads Boulder, which is a half or full marathon. You should come up to Summit County while you're in Boulder:hippie:

I'm in Austin, TX. Brand new to the walking and running thing, so I'm not sure about our local events, but I do know that there are several.

The Dallas and Austin have some great walker friendly events. A lot of our walkers from the walking site are in that area.

Dave:)

I'm from Colorado, about an hour west of Pueblo, so I'm not near Monte. I haven't found any local events, although I'd love to.

I used to live in San Antonio for a few years (just left in July 2006), but I used to love to drive up to Austin to run around Town Lake. Not sure if you have checked it out, but there are tons of different routes to take for different distances:

Be sure to check out RunTex's site for information about events - very helpful!

I'm now living in Calgary, Alberta in Canada. We have quite a few races throughout the year here. I'm hoping to run a 10K for St. Patrick's Day on March 17. Plus our Marathon/Half/10K is on July 8th. I'm hoping to run my first half that day:yay: .

Wilmington, Delaware and just about 20 minutes south of the Philadelphia airport.
Terri -- I would have LOVED to do that May race, but will be doing the Minnie.

We have the Caesar Rodney half marathon in March and the Delaware Marathon in May and many, many other shorter distance events from about March through early December. If anyone is ever in the area, we'd love to hear from you!

I'm in South Georgia, about an hour away from St. Simon's Island and just a little longer to Jacksonville. I haven't done any racing yet! There are several races in our area that I have been thinking about-- there is a 10k/5k in St. Simons February 24th that I am considering.

I'm reasonably near Albany where some WISHers are getting together for a marathon in March. Unfortunately, I have a prior obligation and can't go. I'm not ready to run that far yet, but it would have been fun to watch and cheer!

A lot of races take place in Jacksonville- there is the Gate River Run in March (15k). They also have a half/full marathon I think in December (might consider doing the half as a training run for Goofy, but haven't really thought it through.) There's a new marathon started by a local TV reporter in Feb 2009. I'd say I will maybe walk the half in that one after Goofy but that is getting WAY ahead!!;)

Locally, we have a 5k at the end of March that starts in a park about five blocks from my house-- I'm so excited to be able to walk to the race! :cool1:

Bless you. You have the best, and I mean THE BEST running path down at Town Lake. You can get on the path at Auditorium Shores or under the Mopac Highway. The path is very long and soft, dirt and crushed gavel. You can do it as a loop using the bridge under Mopac and the Congress Street bridge to cross, or you can do outs and backs, from Auditorium Shores to mile marker 3 and back if you want 6, or starting under Mopac, going to Auditorium Shores, turning around to mile 3, then doubling back to your starting point if you want 6. There are water fountains, hills, flats, everying.

Sigh, you've just taken me back to the 1980's. Thank you. I'm a lot younger and fitter, at least in my mind.

Minnie

Yes, I knew Boulder Boulder is on Memorial Day weekend, but I'll be in the city July 1 through August 16 and miss it. Hopefully there are other races I can jump into.

Davenport, Iowa here!
We have several races in the area every year, including a couple of triathalons and Half/Full Marathons. The biggest one though is the Bix 7, a seven miler here in Davenport. It is named after Bix Beiderbecke, a famous jazz musician during the 20's who is from Davenport and this year will be the 33rd Bix 7. There is a weekend long street fest featuring jazz, blues, swing, and rock music day and night and many vendors of arts and crafts, (oh yeah and a lot of good food and beer, too).

Stephanie,
What are the chances of that! :cool1: You can tell him that we live in Louisville. He'll have heard of our little 'burg.

I live in central Pa, near Altoona now, but I grew up in York. I work at a local running store here, and here is a link to a lot of the local races that we are advertising for in the store.....I saw a couple of them mentioned already here in this thread!
http://enduranceathletics.com/calendar.htm

I am hoping to do my first ever race in March; it is a 2-miler. We'll see how it goes, because I just found out today that the whole first mile is uphill! :scared1:

I live in West Michigan. We have several 5Ks, may do one this weekend. A 10K end of July, Grand Rapids has a full adn half marathon in October. Soemday, though, I dream of competing in teh Mean Girls' Half Ironman in Arkansas. HAve to learn to swin on top of the water for that though.
