This is from our Texas Hill Country, probably the most beautiful area of Texas. Retirees flock to this area and it's a #1 tourist destination during the summer. The area is limestone hills and the rivers in the area are beautiful, tree lined and very popular for tubing. In fact, the Guadalupe River is the #1 "Tubing River" in Texas. The area has many RV parks along the rivers and it's a very popular spot for summer camps, one of the most popular and hard to get into, is Camp Mystic. Mid-afternoon I got a text from Sara. One of the 20+ missing campers is an 8 year old little girl from Bellville; she's the granddaughter of one of our most prominent attorney's and a former student of the pre-school Sara used to work for. The granddaughter of another local family, also at Camp Mystic, has thankfully been located. As of 10 pm, the confirmed dead has reached 24 with many still missing. Another friend of Sara's is waiting word on a family she works and competes with on the rodeo circuit; another community family hasn't been able to locate relatives. The "numbers" are astounding. The area was predicted to have 3-4 inches of rain; the weather system stalled and as much as 16 inches fell in a few hours in some areas. The Llano River normally runs at 500 cubic feet per second; within 5 hours it was running at 117,000 cubic feet per second. The Guadalupe River flows at 6 feet; it rose to 36 feet in 1 1/2 hours. The camp is on this river and the timetable of the flash flood was between 3 and 5 AM so all the campers were asleep in their cabins. Two stone cabins washed down the river.

I saw this on the news. So sad. I’m glad the girl from your town was found.
