We'll be watching all evening...the Princess is "in the doghouse". Her "punishment" is to watch the Weather Channel and do a "report" on the hurricane.

Sitting here dreading to go to bed. We should get the worse weather from Matthew between midnight and 5am. Why does it always have to be in the middle of the night. Husband has to go into to work at 11, he's an electrician at the hospital so he has to be there in case of power issues. Won't be sleeping well tonight.

DH just read on Yahoo this is only the 4th time Disney World has closed entirely because of a hurricane.

Remember we are on the good side of the storm. It really has not been bad for me. And the eye was about 70 miles off the coast. I have to be catching the feeder bands just right. This was only a half hour ago.

Y'all have both been "lucky" since it moved a little farther north than northwest...definitely on the "good" side if there is a good side. Ed...your rain now is what I call "good sleeping rain" ...a nice gentle rainfall so I'd tend to agree with you as to catching the feeder bands "just right". The Weather Channel reporter stationed at Juno Beach has a lot stronger rain/wind...some gusts already up to 68 mph. I've been watching the radar and you haven't had much "yellow". Hope it stays that way.

So true..."why does it always have to be in the middle of the night"! We always say that when tornado warnings are issued...you can't see a DANG THING ! Hope your DH doesn't have a "hard night" at work and everything operates as normal. During Hurricane Ike my DH, as a member of the Emergency Management Team, had to stay behind in case our county had damage (thankfully only a few downed trees and spotty power outages) but we left the morning it hit with an earlier than originally scheduled flight. The ABC Orlando TV station went to a live broadcast from the ABC Houston station and I ended up staying up most of the night watching. A little nerve wracking because at that time I hadn't heard from DH (he was locked in the safe room at the Courthouse without phone service...only the emergency radio) and didn't know how Austin County was faring. We were at the Poly that year and I'd sleep 45 minutes to an hour; wake up and watch TV until I fell asleep again; wake up, etc. At least I was already up for sunrise pictures that year! You're afraid to watch yet afraid to go to sleep too! Hope your night is a safe one!

2 weeks ago I was out riding my road bicycle. was at mile 22 and had to slow down for a car exiting a local Walmart. Went to slow and lost balance. Feet were in clips still. fell hard on entire left side. The next day went and got x-rays. Have a Bruised chest wall and 2 fractured ribs. All triathlon training has stopped for a few weeks

Ouch! You poor thing! But that's what you get for riding a bike!

Also they are projecting that Mathew could be a 5 in the near future. Right now it is a strong category 4.

So sorry your DH has to go out in this!! Yes, why does it have to hit in the middle of the night! It's extra scary in the dark!!

Boy, Sept. 2004 was a bad month for Disney World! It would be so weird to be there stuck when the parks are closed. I hope the animals at the AK are all okay.

Well I don't really want to say but it with Mathew as a CAT 4 I am glad I was on the left side (good side) of the storm. For those that have not gone thru a hurricane, the right front quadrant is the worst part of a storm to go thru. If you have to go thru one pray you are in the left side. The eye was between 60 to 70 miles of the coast. Around 11pm I was still only getting minimal tropical winds. Maybe in the 30 to 40mph.

As big as Mathew was I feel I should have been getting rocked rather bad. Just think 140mph winds 60 miles away. Been thru smaller storms and felt worse winds than last night. We all dodged a bullet.

I have been in that right front quadrant eye wall and eye before. Butt kicker's absolutely. The part that will be very bad for any future CAT 3, 4, and 5 storms is the false sense of security that Mathew gave those from how easy the left side was with this one. They will not want to evacuate for the next one. There will be more destruction and deaths. Plain and simple.

Amen...SO glad that sucker stayed off shore...a 20-30 mile shift to the west would have put you in that top right quarter and you would be cleaning up a big mess today! Looks like Daytona Beach is getting hit pretty hard this morning...debris from hotels flying everywhere! You are so right though about the future...case in point..Katrina and she was a Cat 3. It doesn't take much for the "perfect storm" to create a HUGE problem. Looks now like Georgia might catch the brunt of the winds/rain/storm surge. It's a "roll of the dice" and you were lucky with this one. The thing that totally ticks me off though is that people get angry when officials call for caution and nothing happens. They're not God, they do the best they can and Heaven forbid if they don't take it seriously (again...KATRINA) and there is massive damage and loss of life. I'm ready to strangle a few posters on the hurricane thread here on Disboards...and, I might add, the ones complaining the loudest are the ones from states/countries that have never experienced a hurricane. What ever happened to the "better safe than sorry" saying? Good to hear you fared okay through this situation; it's been a long, hard few days for you. Now...take a pain pill and go rest!

For those that have not gone thru a hurricane, the right front quadrant is the worst part of a storm to go thru. If you have to go thru one pray you are in the left side.
