Well, welcome back You went to NYC and that was the last we heard from you!

My "megalopolis" looks soooo pretty when I turn the overhead lights off and just sit on the couch! Sure hope I get to that soon...just sit and enjoy it!

Checkers game is OUTSIDE a store...and you're on the wrong side of the street. Let me know if my "country" guess is correct and then I'll give your "hippo-anteater" another try!

The Crystal place? The Confectionary? The Main St. Cinema? How about that little side street? There's a building there called the Art Festival? Town Jewelers? I'm looking through my pictures and I don't see any checker board

Well, welcome back You went to NYC and that was the last we heard from you!

I know. That was a long day. I had my first "playdate" the next day. Then friday was spent recovering. Saturday was work. and yesterday was spent doing things around the house and keeping an eye on the kids while DW was baking cookies all day.

Wednesday, we went into NYC to see the "real" santa at Macy's, as well as see the tree. Got our usual late start and made it into the city and were parked at the garage and on the street by about 12:30pm. We immediate made our way to Earl of Sandwich for lunch. We caught the end of the lunch rush, which meant no seats, so we took our lunch over to rockefeller plaza and found seats downstairs in the concourse. We got a look at the tree on the way in, and watched some ice skaters from the basement before leaving for Macy's.

First order of business was to drop off DD's letter in the giant mailbox.

Choosing to go to Macy's Santaland on a weekday was SO much better than the weekend crowd. They were telling us the wait was about 25 minutes. Probably closer to 35-40, but that's nothing compared to the last time we went. The theming of the line is great, so that helps with the wait, even though the dad behind us asked EVERY elf we passed how much longer the wait was.

The big question was how DS would react to the fat man. He did well with Santa for the first minute or so, and then started to get upset.

Next it was outside to see the windows.

DD got upset because she had trouble seeing the windows since so many people kept standing or walking in front. We lingered for a bit to see them all and try to let her get a good look, but it wasn't enough for her. We had to use the lure of hot chocolate to get her moving to our next destination, Bryant Park.

Bryant Park was great. There was plenty of seating. The weather was nice, and we sat and enjoyed hot chocolates and pretzels while watching people ice skate and listening to music. We finished that and then browsed some of the kiosks there, and got a closer look at their smaller, blue-er tree.

Next it was back to the bigger tree. We walked up 5th Ave, and got to the tree just in time to see the Sax 5th ave building's show. In the past, they had giant lighted snowflakes on the side of the building that lit up to music, but this year it was projected images on the building. It was cool, but I liked the snowflake show better.

Next we worked our way toward the tree, stopping to get a family picture (which I have to locate on the web, or go back and see if I can purchase when I go to work on Saturday.)

We were hungry and needed dinner, so we headed over to the Stardust Diner, stopping for another picture or two.

We were seated quickly, though not accurately. We told them we needed a high chair for DS, but that request went ignored and DS had to sit on our laps. The food was meh. We all had dishes that came with fries... and for each of us, that meant about 7 or 8 waffle fries. Not very generous. We paid double what we would have paid at our local diner, so that was on par with a NYC meal. The entertainment factor was what drew us to the place. All the waiters and waitresses are aspiring broadway actors and they take turns singing on a little stage, or while they work. It sounded interesting, but for me it ended up like watching good karaoke. One or two singers were really good, and the rest were good, but not great.

By the time we wrapped up and were leaving, it was already 8pm. We had to blow off the last stop on our agenda, the Times Square Disney Store. It was just too late. So we got our car and headed home, put the kids to bed, and passed out.

I love your decorations and tree. Our tree has mostly Disney ornaments on it too. We have a monorail going around the tree with a Mickey and Minnie treet skirt and our stockings are all Disney too, well except for DS he has Boston Bruins. I'll have to take a picture.

I can't remember any shops on that side of the street Bakery?

Thanks...would love to see your tree photos ; not the bakery but OH SO CLOSE.

That's gotta be John Wayne's horse during the Great Movie Ride! (I remember seeing your previous photo on another thread and wondered WHAT kind of animal that was!

I hope the checkerboard is still there! You're getting closer and closer...not the little side street...keep "walking" toward the Train Station area. (Another couple more guesses before I post the location?)

It's a wonder ANY of us have the energy left to celebrate Christmas! Thanks for posting ALL your photos...from your previous picture AND your day in NYC. Photos make me want to put a December trip to NYC on the TOP of my "bucket list"! I especially like the photo with the huge ornaments ; I've seen those as FOX goes to or comes back from commercials and that display is one of my favorites. AND...Radio City Music Hall...WOW...takes me back a few years when BFF and I took our granddaughters to a performance of the Rockettes in Houston!

WOW BB Mickey! What a day! That would be the trip of a life time for most people. I've been to NYC several times. Been to the Radio City Music Hall. I saw The Odd Couple there if that gives you a hint as to how incredibly OLD I am!!

Thanks for posting your pictures! I watch the Today Show and they are always showing Rockerfellow Plaza and the tree.

Poor little DS! It must be terribly scarey when you are so little and Santa is so big and strange looking. That was a cool chair Santa was sitting in for the pictures.

BTW That Duffy the Bear meet and greet has never been there when I was there. I would have noticed that. I've never seen Duffy as a costumed character. I'm not into Duffy. No emotional bond.

Yes, this is in the Oasis! With it's quiet meandering trails and gentle animals. Setting the mood for what is to come. The equivalent of Main St. in the MK. Warthog is close enough. They are babirusa which I always thought were a form of pig but, if you read the sign, it says they are more closely related to the hippo! And, the little girl does have a long nose like an anteater! What an animal!

I never would have guessed that It does kind of look like a warthog.
