AirTran screwed up royally on our flight with them on 2/5. I wrote a letter, they called Tuesday and offered us RT tickets to anywhere in the USA that they fly.

So, now, where do I go? What would you do?

We could do Disney (again...), but I am hesitating. With room/tix/food it's still more expensive then anywhere else.

We will be bringing the kids (they got free tix, too), so Vegas is out.

So...

Family friendly, great weather, fun stuff to do..

Thoughts?

If someone called me today with RT tickets I would go to Phoenix or Myrtle Beach (depending on if it is warm enough to golf right now or not). I would consider Florida, but not Disney, just a warm beach with some golf--but Florida isn't all that warm right now from what I hear.

Pretty much anywhere that is going to be warm enough to golf in shorts would be fine.

Is it anywhere in the US or anywhere in the Continental US? DH and I considered going to Hawaii in the beginning of February while DS was with his dad, but we couldn't find flights out of MSP for cheaper than $800/person. Hotels were much more reasonable, but the flights were crazy.

If I could choose anywhere in the US, I would choose Hawaii. But I've never been there, and besides Disney, Hawaii has always been my dream destination.:cloud9:

Nevermind, I didn't see the AirTran part. doesn't look like AirTran goes to Hawaii. Silly me.

Ok, then, I would go to New York. :upsidedow

If it is anywhere in the US I would do Hawaii since it is so expensive to fly there. However, if it was the continental US only I would do California. We would like to go there sometime in the few years and do all the sites around Disney Land as well as visit the San Diego area. My other place would be Vegas...

Well, I'm looking at AirTran's route map.. and if they'd let you go to Aruba, I'd go there. :woohoo:

Otherwise, I'd probably pick Los Angeles. I've never really gone west before, and it'd be neat to see all the Hollywood stuff and possibly go to Disneyland. :thumbsup2

Somewhere I had always wanted to go bit couldn't afford to, the Grand Canyon and surrounding areas.
If you really wanted to go to Las Vegas you could with the kids. My ex took my boys years ago and he got babysitters in the room at night so he and his wife could go out to the casinos and shows. The boys didn't mind since they were older, they watched movies all night anyhow.

I would go to California! Avenue of the Giants, Sanfran, Yosemite, San Diego (fish tacos!!!!), Big Sur, Monterey, Carmel, The skunk train, Tahoe...the possibility's are endless and beautiful!! I've lived most of my life there though...so it's possible I'm a bit biased.

That sounds so good if we were heading out right now, but we won't be using them until later in the year - over MEA!

Yeah, it's anywhere AirTran flies...and if we do any of the international ones, we need to pay the taxes/fees on them. So that's out.

We won't be using them until October or so. We have until 2/16/2011 to use them. We are already booked (with bounceback) at WDW over MEA in October, but we can cancel that if we want to go somewhere else.

I wouldn't MIND going to WDW - certainly is the easiest as far as family goes (no car seats, know what to expect, we all love it, etc), but since the whole country is open to me...I am wavering!

So, the dates we will PROBABLY use them are 10-16 thru 10/24 or so.

On the table:

WDW, San Diego, LA, Seattle, (we have a huge trip planned next year for DS's 7th birthday...taking the train east to catch some Twins baseball...so going east with these tickets is kind of a last ditch option), or Phoenix.

What to do what to do.

What about going somewhere over Christmas break instead of MEA since you are already going to Disney for MEA--which is the BEST time to go in my opinion. If not Christmas, what about MLK weekend or President's weekend of the dates work out?

If it is an MEA trip I would do Phoenix and include the Grand Canyon or go out east and a trip through New England in the fall. DC would be my 3rd choice-but we were just there in June so that is why it is that far down the list :lmao:.

Another thought would be to do a cruise somewhere. Cruise prices are very reasonable these days-about the same as staying in a hotel but FOOD is included.

No question- we'd fly to Seattle, WA. We have extended family there. We'd also rent a car and drive down the coast into OR (family in Portland), then further down through CA to Los Angeles. Make a real trip of it, and do DL for a few days. Then fly back home out of LA.

San Diego is so much fun and so many things to do and see, very kid friendly. That would be a possibility for me, it's been 10 years since I've been there and would love to go back.

Although it would be hard not to go to Disney! lol
