From the Department of Energy web site. This lists oil companies and what amount and proportion of their imports come from the Persian gulf. If everybody went to BP, Shell and Hess instead of Exxon, Texaco, etc. perhaps we could put a small dent in "dependency" equation:

Where does your oil come from?

The whole problem with that is if you stop going to one place and go to another, the other place needs to increase imports and the Persian importers would be the likely source.

This whole ideal of 'stop buying oil from these guys' is part of a HOAX email that is working it's way around the net right now.
You can check snopes for this one, here is the link.

Haven't seen the e-mail you're talking about. Someone pointed me to the doe website. But you have a good point. There isn't an oil company on the list that flat out WON'T import from the Persian gulf.

I couldn't get into the snopes page, but...

The thing is, just because a company does not import oil from the Persian Gulf does not mean that the gas they sell is not from there. Gas/oil are traded just like corn or soybeans and the gasoline that you buy from any gas station could have come from any number of countries, including those in the Middle East.

I just try to find the cheapest gas and buy it there. Its very expensive here in California.
