I just heard that LTT no longer serves Butter Grilled Pound Cake as a dessert for lunch.

Why?

This was, hands down, the best dessert I've had at Disney World.

We loved it. Now it's gone. Gone the way of the PORiverside cheesesteak. And the sausage on the Whispering Canyon skillet. We don't eat hugely fatty foods in real life. That's what vacation is for. But now the food police are dictating what we can enjoy.

These new draconian food policies are ruining Disney World. Which of your favorite foods have been targeted for being politically incorrect?

I have to agree, this was my favorite dessert EVER at disney world too! So sad to see it go!

Although, to ease the pain of your loss.....Beaches and Cream makes a FANTASTIC Sundae that, although different, incorporates alot of the same flavors. I thought they tasted very similiar and I liked it almost as well. Its the Milky Way Sundae - bundt cake topped with three scoops of vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, butterscotch, whipped cream and a cherry $7.99. The day I had it they must have gone easy on the hot fudge, because I didn't remember that part of it at all until I just now read the description.

I had really been looking forward to trying the No Way Jose after reading so many great reports of it here on the boards, and it was good, really good, but the Milky Way Sundae beats it hands down IMO!!!!

If it makes you feel any better think of it this way, if they did not change up the menus there would be nothing new and better to try....

Its an easy one to do at home - Sara Lee Poundcake is darn good. I've never had the one at LTT (and I guess I won't now), but a long gone resturant here used to make a dessert that was French Toast made with poundcake and clarified butter with a lemon curd. Oh My God.

The best dessert I've had at WDW was a chocolate bread pudding at Le Cellier that was some sort of seasonal special or something - saw it once, have never heard of anyone else having it. It was so good.

Disney knows they have won the battle for your wallet. They no longer need to entice you by keeping your favorite dessert on the menu. Actually I agree with you that their food policies lately have taken some of the fun out of Disney dining.

Where are you hearing this info? This is one of the reasons I picked LTT for lunch in December. I know there was thread about it some time ago but I didn't think it was fact! Tell me it's not so.:sad2:

It was definitely still on the menu as of 9/27; I didn't order it, I went with the caramel apple tart with cinnamon ice cream instead, which was incredible, but I did get a picture of the menu and it's still there!

It could be just a matter of changing chefs too.
There have been a few times when dining at a WDW restaurant the server mentions the menu is changing the next day, or just changed, and it is due to a different head chef. Seems a new chef does not want to prepare another chef's menus. And I am sure I would be the same way if I were a chef. :confused3

I couldn't agree with you more. We watch what we eat all year long with the exception of the holidays, special days and vacation time. I never had a chance to try it but it looks wonderful.

Kona use to have tons of desert choices and would display them but now they only have a limited choice. Seems like menus are getting smaller everywhere.

Man, you must have a passion for that pound cake to have such a strong reaction.

There is plenty of junk still available all over the place in Disney. Fried Snickers anyone? I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's a food police kind of thing. Menus change chef's like to switch things up. Being creative people I'm sure they like to vary what they make to prevent boredom.

I was told by my server on 9/28 that it was coming off the menu. Actually, that they were changing it somehow-didn't care about the somehow because that is the main reason I go to LTT for lunch. They are also changing my William Penn Pasta which I love so much. That was suppossed to happen in 2 weeks. He said if you're not happy with any changes to the menu let them know. Almost like he wasnt' happy about the changes & wanted customers to help out the cause I don't know!! Either way, I ate what I believe to be my last Buttered Griddled Pound Cake on this trip.

*Sigh* The homogenization of the Disney Restaurants. They really are sucking the fun out of eating on the property. When we were there in Sept. we got really tired of Creme Brulee and Bread Pudding. The Creme Brulee is okay the first 3-4 days but there is absolutely nothing exciting about Bread Pudding.

Next someone is going to tell me that they're taking away the Pot Roast.

If they do that, then we'll be crossing LTT off our to-do list. Time to try something else.

i'd heard a rumor on another thread that the crabcakes at LTT were on the endangered species list....

sure hope not - my DH would throw a hissy fit....

I feel your pain.

Because the following items have ALSO disappeared:

1. The BEAVERTAILS which were sold at Epcot in...Canada!

2. The Maple Creme Brule is now reportably missing from the dessert menu at Le Cellier at Epcot in...Canada!

3. The Chocolate Moose was taken off the kids' dessert menu and put on the more expensive adult dessert menu at Le Cellier at Epcot in...Canada!

3.a. The Cottage PIE is GONE from the dinner menu at the R&C in Epcot! Which is exactly RIGHT BESIDE...Canada!

3.b. The Fettucine Alfredo as well as the entire old Alfredo's Restaurant, Epcot, which is exactly six countries away from... Canada!

4. The HUGE grilled shrimp on skewers at...'Ohanada!

5. The fresh pineapple chunks served for dessert with carmel sauce at...'Ohanada!

Now, I may be being a tad bit paranoid... but I detect some sort of pattern here.

SO need a Treaty of Ghent, Dude.

Cheers, Mel.

Hi, I'm ZZUB. Have we met? I loved that cake so much, I actually took a picture of it. I have NEVER taken a picture of food.

I emphatically concur. Bread pudding is as lame as the movie in Canada. And indeed, Canada itself. I wrote at length last year about how Disney has homogenized the menus, a report which made some people go numb I might add.

I don't think this is a situation of changing chefs/changing menus. It's the LTT, not California Grill for crying out loud. When someone is grilling up poundcake, can we really call him a chef? This smacks of the food police dictating what we will and will not enjoy. It's carrots instead of fries all over again.

This was my big laugh of the day - thanks!

Really? Then I guess bread pudding must be pretty amazing...

When someone is grilling up poundcake, can we really call him a chef?

I think you are confusing "Cooks" (line cooks generally perform tasks such as grilling, cooking, and most of the actual food preparation) and "Chefs" (select and design menus, responsible for quality control and overseeing the kitchen; preparing special items).

And yes, people who prepare food in restaurants are generally referred to as "Chefs" so it is appropriate to call the person who is "grilling up poundcake" the same as the the person preparing your meal at California Grill.

I second that... not ONLY is the bread pudding they served at...'Ohanada AMAZING!!!!!

AMAZING!!!!

BUT... that Canada is ALSO...pretty AMAZING!

Except for Scarborough.

NOPrincessTrisha. (That's... 'No Offense, Princess Trisha) btw.

(That's... by the way. btw.)

And, actually, I can say that. B/C I lived there for a very very very long time.

Almost two years.

But back to the topic:

I used to be a "Chef" too... I guess. I used to toast hamburger buns in a fast food restaurant.

What I'm saying here is that I get what ZZUB is saying.

Unfortunately.

Cheers, Mel.
