Where does it end?!

that recipe is hysterical!!! :rotfl2:

but seriously - any word on the LTT crabcakes?? :rolleyes1

But that won't stop me from giving my opinion.

I can't BELIEVE you're pining and yearning for a piece of cake! And coming up with "conspiracy theories" as to why it's disappeared from the menu!

Except that I can. Because after all, you are ZZUB. And I know how much cake means to you. Or do I? Judging from that picture you posted, I'd pine and yearn (is that the same thing?) too if I were you. It looks AMAZING and I'm pretty upset that I'll never get to try it. Unless I make it at home.

Thanks for the recipe by the way, Mel. It sounds.... YUMMO!!!

You left out the eye of newt though. Try not to let that happen again. It throws the whole recipe off.

But back to the cake.

Oddly enough, a favorite desert of MINE has also disappeared from the Kona Cafe menu.

Behold the Kilauea Torte circa October 2006:

This thing was absolutely AMAZING. There are no words to describe how good this dessert was. It was one of the main reasons we looked forward to eating dinner at Kona Cafe on our trips. Warm molten chocolate center. Passion fruit sauce. You just couldn't get much better than that. Not even with a Dole Whip float. But they've changed it.

This is what it looks like now...

My husband and I both ordered it just to try it. To give it a shot. It was nothing like the old one. It's more like a Blondie (NOBLONDIE) now and it has some unidentifiable clearish sauce in the middle instead of the chocolate. Neither one of us wanted to finish it and we're currently in mourning over the loss of our beloved chocolate Kilauea Torte.

All that to say this: I feel your pain, ZZUB. I feel your pain.

:moped:

Hey Zzub, I'm with you on the pound cake. What a shame if they do away with it. I hate seeing that all the restaurants are becoming more and more alike with no specific specialties for that restaurant. Think if we complained loud enough someone would listen?:confused3

I think we have to try!!

If WDw was REALLY about makig choices healthier, then you'd think they'd have more veggies!

Now I know it is vacation and we like our treats but we really did miss our vegatables on our WDW vacation. The only place we got our fix was at the cold buffet at our lunch in Norway. We were happy to find the fresh fruit stand over at Animal Kingdom.

Maybe it's just me but why is there no Starbucks! :confused3 It must be the only 47 square acres in America without at least one Starbucks. Alas, is there only one over at the Shades of Green?

A high powered latte and some fresh vegatables doesn't seem like too much to ask from Joey Menumaker.

My favorite dessert is also gone. The chocolate tart from Tony's. I know Tony's takes a bad rap here on the boards, but we liked it so much last year that we ate there twice. Both times I had this wonderful dessert....

When we went in August, my dessert was gone :sad1: I had some kind of lemon cake which was okay, but it was not the chocolate hazelnut tart..........also my steak did not taste quite as good as it did last year, but possibly because I was bummed out about dessert.

DH and I miss the apple pie from Columbia Harbor House. It was replaced by an apple crisp that is anything but crisp (kind of gooey apples with mushy granola topping). The pie they used to have had homemade crust, had just the right amount of cinnamin and wasn't overly sweet. I think I've read somewhere the crisp has been replaced or changed now.

I hope the tendency toward more uniform menus doesn't continue.

.

I hear you! I remember one year towards the end of the trip I started ordering fruit salad for breakfast. I couldn't look at anymore eggs and bacon. At dinner I would look at a slab of meat and a pile of potatoes on my plate and all I really wanted was steamed broccoli.

Just got back tonight, noticed alot of changes at many TS and CS places. Kona has different menus for lunch and dinner, Yacht Club Galley too, Cape May dinner no longer has the beef tips with mushrooms, Le Cellier is different for lunch and dinner.....

The drink menus are different too. I was speakink with the manager of Cape May and she said the restaurants change menus 4 times a year, to go along with the seasons. Not only does the food change but so doesnt the drinks. We had the best pumpkin martini...but I really wanted the blueberry pina colada.....

What the heck did they do to the Kilauea Torte ?? I was looking forward to trying it this trip. Do you know if the macadamia chocolate tart is still on the menu ?

One thing's for sure, if I see a treat I'd like on our next trip (12 days,YEAH!) I'm getting it NOW. By December it might be gone :sad2:
Disney, we can eat low-fat yogurt all year long. Leave the desserts alone !

PoohHappens, I agree with you to a point about using real fats in food, but I've made some of the Disney recipes. I don't allow fake fat in my house, but I also don't make the Boma Chicken corn chowder according to the recipe either. It call for lots of heavy cream - and it tastes just fine with far less fat. In fact, it tastes better, IMHO. Likewise for the Artist's Point berry cobbler recipe I have. In truth, I've never had the one at WDW, but I like this recpie with milk instead of - you guessed it, heavy cream (and butter).

On one occaission when I did follow a WDW for a dinner with guests, they were truly troubled when they saw me add so much butter and cream to one recipe. I don't recall which dish it was, but I didn't make it after that.

I'm all for real butter in cookies and the like, but I think some restaurants had too many heavy food items. I just don't think it's ever okay to eat fried french toast cheese danish (CRT breakfast)- yuck! I think there were times at WDW where people were eating things like that without realizing just how bad they were, especially the things that were fried in transfats.

I also found it tiring to have french fries at EVERY QS meal for a whole week, and disturbing that EVERY kids' meal at EVERY restaurant came with them. I don't ever want my kids eating that many fries. I like the idea that kids can get grapes withtheir meals, but I think maybe fries should still be offered at some places.

Conversely, as I stated above, there was a serious lack of veggies on our recent trip - that smacks far less of Disney nutrition police than cutting corners to save money. if they wanted to make meals healthier they should reduce the size of the steaks and put something green on every plate.
The kids' choices often lacked anything green - or at most one green choice. If thenew menu was REALLY about making kids' meals healthier, where are the green beans?

I did notice that Disney just released a new line of veggie snacks in the real world, maybe those will also show up at WDW?!?!?!?

For what it's worth, the no transfat and healthy options (or non-options) for kids is actually costing Disney TONS of money, it is not to squeeze another dime out of guests, more of a PR thing, fighting the obesity issue of america.

Well, many of us don't go for this and would rather see the old options back for kids so WDW can just save their "tons of money" and bring the other menus back and leave a healthy option for those who want it. AND most of those kiddie healthy options are horrible. My niece didn't want to eat one night and I tasted her food and the meal was nasty....My DGS eats healthy all year long (we raise our own meats, eggs, veggies and some fruits) and with desserts on special occasions BUT when we are at WDW, we want him to be able to eat a big gooey dessert as we want to get.

. . . *Sigh* The homogenization of the Disney Restaurants. They really are sucking the fun out of eating on the property . . .

1) I agree.
2) The menus are getting more ordinary and standardized.
3) Next . . . cardboard wafers with a delightful imitation cream sauce
4) Yum.

NOTE: OK, I apologize for the cynical remark. I have always enjoyed eating at WDW, because each restaurant was different and each restaurant tried to make "THE MEAL" the experience. Now, with the low reimbursement of DDP, the restaurants are cutting so many costs that the menus are stale and the items are not unique between eateries. My buddy is a chef at GF, and gets disgusted with the changes and lack of imagination. He says that he went to culinary school to create meals, not to just cook food. He could do that at Shoney's or Sizzler.

my DH calls our food consumption in disney the "constipation diet", since there is little to no fruit/veggie interaction (unlike at home!) in what we eat while in disney :thumbsup2

eh - what's one week of "discomfort"? :rotfl2:

clear a path - F&W booths, here we come!!!!! :yay:

Wow, Zzub, this is the first time I've seen you outside of your trip reports. So sorry it's about the mourning of a dessert. I was sad that Rose and Crown no longer has cottage pie, so we didn't eat there last week. Nothing else on the menu appealed to us. I had never tried maple creme brulee that used to be at Le Cellier, but I have to say the new vanilla with the berry goo (I'm sure it has a technical name) was to die for. So sometimes change is good!

I agree with previous posters that we could use a little more green on our plates--I was stealing DH's asparagus at dinner one night! When do you ever do that in the real world?:confused3 :confused3 We packed Fiber One bars...:rotfl: .

I'm not sure what they served you but the Kilauea Torte is definitely still there and it's still very chocolately. Here's a photo of it from our lunch at Kona in August 2007:

As described on the menu, it is "an explosion of warm liquid chocolate inside a brownie volcano".

I think you people are nuts! Get it? Nuts? Oh well. Sorry attempt at humor.

Here's my 2 cents.

There are things I miss from Disney menus. However, I discovered 2 excellent new dishes at Le Cellier while there earlier in the month. One was the Spicy Chicken Chipotle Sausage on Polenta that was an appetizer. The second one was the apple crumble with granola ice cream. Oh my. I didn't think anything could beat the bread pudding and banana's foster at Ohanas. But that stuff did.

It's almost worth another trip just to get some more of that.

Oh, and hello to all those I haven't seen in a while!

Blessings!
Mark

What they served me was indeed the "new" Kilauea Torte. According to our server. It may have been an explosion of warm liquid chocolate inside a brownie volcano back in August 2007 but as of last week, the only thing exploding out of that thing was clear goo.

Unfortunately.

Thanks for posting though.

They really need to change the description on the menu then. Yikes.
