This is the first time I have ever asked a question on this web-sight....hope I am doing this right
Anyway, going to Port Orleans French Quarter in October for 9 wonderful days, and I have seen comments on Disney Dollars...where can I purchase them prior to my trip?
I have also noticed different things on "connections". What is connections??? Is it a websight or what?
Thanks for your patience and answers
Deb

Hi and welcome!!!! These boards will pretty much tell you where to get all info possible! These vets are really outstanding!!! First things first though, check out www.mousesavers.com and that will tell you all about Connections. It's basically a program that you join and can get good deals on tickets and food vouchers. Also check out www.wdwg.com that site has tons of info as well!
I got my family to give us Di$ney Dollar$ for x-mas and birthday presents, you get them at the Disney Store and they are basically dollars that can be used at the Disney store or WDW. You can use them for anything you want with the exception of Swan or Dolphin (not Disney owned). Any other questions just ask....geeze guys I feel like I actually know what I'm talking about!!!! thanks to all who were just as patient with me!!!

Can you get Disney dollars on-site as well? Also, what are the advantages of carrying Disney $ instead of real money?

I know that you can get them on site. Some hotels will have them in the lobby for you to exchange your american money for dd. There is not advantage. It is real money that you can only spend on Disney property. They look really cool. I got them as a gift for X-mas which I thought was a good idea because I was going away in Janurary and then I would not spend it and use it when I got to Disney. :D :D :D

The only advantage I've found of Disney dollars over cash is that if you give them to a kid as a present the parents can't take it and spend it on themselves.

I've done this a few times for the kids of friends I know who are going to the parks.

You can definitly get Disney Dollars at your local Disney store, but I think you can order them by mail as well. I'm not totally sure about how you go about it, but I read it somewhere!!
We use Disney Dollars to save up spending money for US! We bring travelers checks and our debit card for meals an gifts, but whatever we save in Disney Dollars is for what ever we see and just "want".
It has worked out very well for us.
:D

Not that I'm at all against Disney Dollars but I bet the reason they have them is because if every family that visits WDW saves one or two as a souvenier cuz they're cute, Disney has just made a million dollars!! Not that there is anything wrong with that on Disney's part, either.

I don't spend them. More stuff that I collect.

I know a lot of people on the DIS use them as a way to save, because you can only spend them at Disney (store, world, land, etc).

Every so often they change the look of them, too, another reason I save them.

If you don't have a Disney Store near you, buy them at the store at the Orlando airport. You can do this instead of waiting at the carousel before luggage arrives.

I always get DDollars for my kids' spending money. We usually set aside a prescribed amount of their money and buy them at home in advance. This ensures they have plenty of (their own) money to spend, and when it's gone they're not hitting me up for just a little bit more.

The only advantage I've found of Disney dollars over cash is that if you give them to a kid as a present the parents can't take it and spend it on themselves.

You obviously don't know my husband! He might take some from the kids if he gets a chance! He gets his own Disney Dollars as well as the kids. He specifically asked for them on his Christmas list because he wanted to buy more stuff last year than he had money for and thinks he "needs" more stuff this year! It's an easy gift idea for grandparents, etc. to give to the kids for holidays like Easter, Valentine's Day, etc. This is the only spending money the kids get while we are there and they can buy whatever they want (well, within reason).
