Where do you leave the tip?

I just read the "Do you tip thread" and it got me thinking. Last October we stayed at POFQ. Our room was cleaned well each day. Each morning before we left I would leave a tip in an envelope marked "Thank you for your service!" under the pillow. We stayed for 5 nights and the envelope was only taken once.

My Grandma had told me years ago that if a maid does a good job, she'll see the tip under the pillow. If not, she'll miss it.

Where do you leave your tip and why?

I leave mine on the night stand, or on the foot of the bed. Either way it's in an envelope marked for Mousekeeping. Of course, I make my bed every morning, even on vacation, so they probably think I'm nuts!

We do not have much experience,, (are taking our 2nd WDW vacation in Aug) but, we had made up envelopes earlier.. (we wrote mousekeeping on the front, DDs decorated them...simple,,, like a pink mickey head or princess crown) and we had it setting on the table/held up by something, so she could see it as soon as she entered the room. We had the most amazing towel animals and such.

Everyday the envelope was gone and DDs would search around the room to see what she had left. We had 'shells' and 'flowers' in the bathroom and EVERY kind of towel animal AND 1 very adorable towel 'Girl! Worth the $5 a day, just to see the kids' eyes when we got back.

They need something as a "receipt" for taking the money (in case you should claim that the money was stolen). Perhaps "Thank you for your service!" is not something very familiar them, not 100% identifiable with their service, or perhaps they've been told only to take something marked "housekeeping" or mousekeeping".

In Grandma's day sheets were changed daily at hotel. Since we have learned alot about our environment, along with financial costs involved in washing sheets every day, sheets at any hotel will only be changed once during a five day stay. The bed is made daily but the pillows would only be moved, not taken off the bed. That is why the tip would not be noticed. It would be seen the day the sheets are changed.

. . . We stayed for 5 nights and the envelope was only taken once . . .

1) Many maids at WDW do not speak or write English.
2) Put the tip on the pillow in the open (not in an envelope).
3) That is the universal location.
4) In Europe, Asia and USA, never has the tip not been taken.

WOW! I never realized this the norm....every 5 days :confused3 Now this somehow upsets me paying $300-$500 (BC/YC) a nite even more. I realize it becomes an environment issue, but ....:rolleyes1 .

We leave our daily mousekeeping tip in an envelope marked "Thank You!" on the desk, credenza, or bathroom counter. :)

Once, my DD had left a $10 bill on top of the tv, (and we didn't realize it she forgot it),as it was her WDW $ left over from a purchase. When we came back in the room, the maid prolly thought it was for her, and took it. That is a bit much for a daily housekeeping tip, but we learned our lesson!

Hi,
We took our second and unfortunately probably last whole family trip a few weeks ago.
I made up cute envelopes on the computer( labeled for Mousekeeping).
It was taken every day-- left it on shelf by mirror outside the bathroom.
One time, the Mousekeeper left the envelope, but usually she/he took the whole thing.

We usually leave it on the table and write "Thank you!" on it. We've never had a problem with the Mousekeeping missing it.

We leave an envelope with Mousekeeping (and stickers on it) on the table, top of pillow or end of the bed.

We do keep our rooom pretty neat, so the envelope is essy to see. :)

If you go to www.themouseforless.com , they have some mousekeeping envelopesthat you can print and make from a standard sheet of computer paper. They have difffernt designs on them and can be fun to do.

We tape our tip to the mirror in an evelope marked with mouse keeping. My girls would write a message on it asking for a certain towel animal and when we came back to the room the envelope was gone and a towel animal was left everytime. My kids would get so excited to see if they had a towel animal.

I don't want to come across as harsh, but if you can't speak, read or write English, you are working here in the US and you can't figure out if the money being left in the room is a tip, it's your loss.:confused3

PS We had no envelopes in our room at POFQ and left the tip next to a napkin with Housekeeping written on it.

We leave the money on the pillow. We think it's fun to leave the gold colored dollar coins. I agree with those who have said that money left on a pillow is not misinterpreted; the maids know the money was left for them.
