We are going in April and peanut will be 7 months and eating baby food. Anyone know how I can heat it up?

Personally, i never heated baby food with either of my kids - unless there was meat involved. And since i rarely fed my kids the baby food with meat in it, it was hardly an issue.I dont think that it matters from a digestive standpoint, although i wouldnt give them food straight from the fridge. From what i understand though any resort or park restaurant will gladly heat a bottle or jar of food for you at no charge - just be sure to test it first. Some resotrts have microwaves that you can request for a fee.Home away from Home resorts have them automatically.Concierge level rooms will allow you to ask a concierge CM to heat it for you.Good Luck!

Oops i just noticed your driving to WDW..... on the road might be tricky.NEver drove to WDW so i dont have any tips there. Hope someone else can give some good ideas.

I would start getting her used to room temperature so you don't have to deal with it. I didn't warm the baby food for my kids unless it was out of the fridge. They can handle it just fine.

If she absolutely can't get used to it, I'm sure you could get a cup of hot water to sit it in for a few minutes or perhaps a restaurant will heat it up for you.

We rarely heat DD food but you do have a few options at the resorts. I'm not sure where you are staying but the hotels do have microwaves in their food courts that you can use. Plus the Baby Care Centers also have microwaves to use.

I also think that a previous posters idea would work in a pinch by placing the jar in a cup of hot water for a few minutes.

The hot water does work, works great with bottles to. That is how it was done before microwaves. I agree with don't heat it. In the park it won't be coming from a refrigerator so it will be room temp or warmer. Of course they could be like my 2nd and refuse all baby food! If he couldn't finger food it he wouldn't eat it.

Since there is no health reasons to heat baby food or formula/breast milk (that was pumped & in the fridge) I don't. I'm too lazy of a mom; Why make extra work for myself if I don't have to?

If you insist on heating it, microwaves are around to use. Putting the jar in hot water works (better if you can't put into a different bowl since microwaves don't heat evenly).

I agree, just dont heat it. I did ds's at first, but realized that it was just an extra step; i mean, i dont think heat is enough to make that stuff taste good! :rotfl: I would just get your baby use to room temp.

She has just started eating fruit and cereal but already if I don't heat it, she makes a face and spits it out like it's too hot. Then I put it in the microwave for a few seconds and she eats it like she's hasn't had anything to eat for days! I will keep a bottle of water for her bottles at room temp so hopefully if I use the formula for her cereal that will be warm enough. I guess I'll try to break her out of the habit now!

Refresh my memory, will she be eating table food at 7.5 months? I can't remember!

Thanks!

It depends on the # of teeth, but probably not much that young. Maybe mashed potatoes if you were somewhere that had those. I do childcare for an 8 month old and she eat cheerios but that is it for the table food. Fresh bananas though are easy to do for babies that age as they mush easily.

If we are going to eat somewhere close, I will nuke the baby food longer. I will also ask for a cup of hot water and let the container soak in it for a little while. I serve her fruit cold which she likes, plus eases the pain of teething. Veggies are served warm, as well as cereal. She too makes a face and wont eat those if cold.

The other thing you could do is get a food mill (Kidco makes one). You can easily mash up a banana, or order some plain (no sauce or seasoning) veggies and puree them with the mill. Problem is then you have the mill to haul (its not big, but is something else to carry). I used it on our cruise over the holidays. Beats hauling jars of baby food. This time around, Ive been making my own baby food and it tastes a whole lot better than the jarred stuff! I just buy fresh fruit, frozen veggies, rinse, steam, and puree in the food processor.

For snacks, my 6 mos old loves those little meltaway puffs (Gerber Graduates-come in banana, strawberry/apple, cherry, sweet potato). She still gagged on Cherrios. I put them in a Cherrios dispenser, or a ziploc.

I always warm my baby's food berfore serving. I know I wouldn't like cold peas. I have been told each park has a baby center equipped with stove and microwave for heating baby food. I plan on using them in March during our trip. Also, any restaurant would heat a jar of food or bottle. :stir:

Thanks! I have to check into the mill. That would be great to have at the buffets. Do you remember where you bought it?

meltaway puffs, I'll have to remember that. DD turned 5 months today and is an eager beaver with food so I am sure those will be a treat for her in a month or so. Definitely by April.

My little guy is 2 1/2 and he still eats peas, green beans, corn, and lots of other veggies straight out of the fridge. :p

I agree, Liz. You can easily heat up your baby or toddler's food in either the Baby Care Center or a restaurant. I wouldn't want my baby to have to settle for something other than they're used to for convenience sake. IMO, it isn't fair to them.

I also wanted to add:
When we were there with our 5month old last September, I was able to not only pump in the nursing room while my husband fed Amelia, but we used their microwave to heat up a mug of water in order for her breastmilk bottle to get warm. We carried a softside cooler with us while we were away from our villa, it kept her bottles & my pumped milk nice and cool.

I also heard you can visit the first aid center if you need meds refrigerated.

When it came time to feed her rice cereal, we made sure we were in our villa to use the kitchen to prepare it. If you don't have the facilities, you can always get help from your Disney resort to either heat what you need for you or rent/borrow a microwave for your room. Disney is very helpful with all of this. The joy of a family-oriented vacation location.

Perhaps some of this may mean a little out of the way for us, but hey, her care and comfort come before us. She is worth it. :goodvibes

13 weeks premature, 83 days in the NICU, now two years old and doing great!

Paul looks great, BTW! What a big boy!

Amelia was born 7 1/2 weeks early (at 2lbs 13oz) and spent 22 days in NICU. It's amazing to watch them grow, isn't it?!

Aw, thanks. It looks like Amelia is doing great, as well! Those little ones sure are tough, aren't they?

I never heated the baby food if it was room temperature cause everytime you heat it you lose some of the vitamins. So I figured better to give it to her at room temp and retain as many vitamins as possible than to heat it up and then lose some since she never ate much anyway. But if I did have to heat something (if I had it in the fridge and it was too cold) then I'd just stick it in some hot water till it got a little warm and she was fine with that.
