Where do you heat baby food?

I went to Cancun with DS when he was 6 months old. He was eating ROOM TEMPERATURE food and formula - it's all he ever got. For travel, I made sure to only take the Gerber foods that came in the plastic containers. Took a Tupperware container for rice cereal and the powdered formula. You can experiment with your DD as she gets more used to textures - in Cancun, I tried soft chicken mashed up (I "mauled" it with my fork) and he loved it! Ditto the bananas. VERY easy to mash with a fork and then spoon feed.

One comment on the Fruit Puffs/Veggie Puffs - Gerber puts a LOT of sugar in them!! I'm not saying it's bad (we try to avoid sugar, but that's us...) just wanted you to be aware.

Around 8 months old they can start yogurt too. Again - TONS of sugar in many of them! Usually the SECOND ingredient - at least try to avoid ones that have high fructose corn syrup AND sugar listed. * That said, don't get ones with Splenda or Nutrasweet - that's bad stuff for babies.
(Done with my sugar public service announcement... ;) :rotfl2: )

We did a LOT of Cheerios (we used both name brand and generic - both were fine) and he LOVED LOVED LOVED Goldfish crackers around that age.

General comment - the more mashed table foods you serve early on, the easier the transition will be to chunky foods. The premade baby foods are SO smooth that many babies have a really hard time going to chunks.

I'd also suggest taking a small amount of dish soap with you - we put some in a Tupperware midgets container on our last trip. That way you can hand wash the bottles/spoons/bowls whatever in your hotel room sink. We did not put them IN the sink, but washed each one individually and then rinsed with the hottest water our hands could take.

We are going in April and peanut will be 7 months and eating baby food. Anyone know how I can heat it up?
Generally they say don't heat any food or drink for baby in micro as can cause tremendous "hot spots" you can be totally unaware of. A large plastic cup of hot water that the food or drink container will fit in for a minute or 2 is usually enough to get things a reasonable temp.

I have a car coffee mug thing that plugs into the car ciggarette lighter! They aren't too expensive and would be great for the car if you kept hot water in it for the travel time! (I got mine at JC Penney) Good luck! Also, use the coffee maker in your room for hot water if someone hasn't already suggested this!

I took my Avent baby food/bottle warmer on our last trip to warm up baby food/milk in the hotel room. It's small and doesn't take much space.

When I am out in the park, I don't warm up baby food. In restaurants, sometimes I ask for a cup of hot water to warm up a bottle.

Like GEM's DS, my DS still gobbles up cold and room temperature veggies! (he's two now) The only time I heated DS's babyfood is when I made it myself and it had been frozen, then I warmed it and then had to cool it back down to around room temp anyway - so with convenience babyfoods I never heated them, nor did I heat formula.

To the OP (btw, your DD is adorable! princess: ), if she is excited about solids now, I'm guessing she'll be game to try all sorts of mashed up grown-up food by the time you go.

Have fun!

Refresh my memory, will she be eating table food at 7.5 months? I can't remember!!

Babies should start solids between 4-6 months. Depending on well they do & how early they started, will depend on how fast they move up. It is not necessary to wait until your child has teeth to move to table foods, just watch which ones, as kids can mash as well with gums as teeth. The front teeth come in sooner and they aren't really used for mashing food--think about it, do you chew your food at the front of your mouth or the back? Heck, my oldest didn't even have a single tooth until after his first birthday. My second was coming close to his first birthday before his first tooth came in.

It is not always recommended that a baby start solids by that time period. It is different for every baby and you should always consult your doctor first.

In fact, there are some babies who don't start foods until their 1st birthday. Again, talk to your pediatrician.

Hi,
I believe there is a microwave in the baby stations located in each park. I hope that helps1

Although i understand there can be hot spots - if you stir the food well (or if heating a bottle, shake it) after heating the microwave, then the heat should end up being pretty evenly distributed, and there shouldn't be hot spots.
