Where Did Your DD Get Her Ears Pierced?

With my older dd, a doctor in her peds practice did it. Then we moved so younger dd went to a hair/nail salon/spa. It was an adult woman who did it. I would never go to one of these places in the mall where a teen does the piercing.

My dd got hers pierced at 9, we went to the piercing pagoda at the mall. When I asked my ped, they said just to go where they have disposable kits... not ones that they sterilize and reuse. It was nice as when we went there were 2 people working, so they did them at the same time.

I got mine done at Claires when I was ten,,, dd 16 was at Claire's when she was 5 (and again when she was 15) and dd10 got hers done at Claires when she was 8... So yeah..Claires..lol

Just be warned though that even though they offer "free" piercing, the earrings themselves can be pretty pricy depending on what you get. We picked the cheapest and plainest (just little silver balls) and it was still $30.
Do they sell solid 14k gold earrings/backs for piercing?

I don't have a DD but I got mine done at Claires when I was 10. They were done by a teen and 20 years later they're still just fine!

I took my DD to Claires when she was 5. They had 2 people doing the piercing at the same time-which was great because after the first one, she might have changed her mind. After reading this, I might have taken her to a piercing specialist but with that being said, we never had any problems. My dermatologist does pierced ears too.

DD had hers done at Claire's 2 years ago. First ear, the gun malfunctioned and pulled the earring back out instead of leaving it in with the back on. They had to re-shoot the same hole. Second ear, the earring broke, but fortunately before it went into the ear. Finally on the 3rd package of earrings we managed to get 2 in her ears. (I only paid for one package of earrings in case anyone wonders.)

However, after all of that, DD's ears are fine and her holes healed perfectly. Earrings are even and I think she likes having a story to tell about it. No matter where you go, I hope you have much less of a story.

Also, I contacted a few piercing places before I went for the Claire's option and a few wouldn't even pierce a minor and most required both parents to be there and generally weren't too fond of the idea.

I took DD to Merle Norman when she was 7. They just seemed to have more mature people working than at Claires. They used the gun and she has had no problems.

No girls but I have many piercings. I've done a few at malls and after going to a certified piercer I would never do a mall again.

I prefer people who are actually trained in piercing and use sterilized equipment. Just my opinion and I know in the past at other places I post on I have been flamed for being so negative on mall places.

My dd got her second piercing at a certified piercer and I have to agree that is the best way to do it hands down.

Your hole will be placed correctly and you will not have the ear trauma and ripping from a piercing gun.

Esp. for little lobes. :thumbsup2

Seriously, until I read this thread I had never heard of a "certified piercer." I'm not making fun, I really mean that. How does one find a certified piercer? :confused3 DD wants pierced ears and DH and I are not ready yet. :rotfl: So it will be a while and I have time to do research. One reason I'm in no hurry is because I wish I'd never had mine pierced. I only did it so I could have nice earrings for my wedding.....Obviously, I was an adult. Turns out, I have allergies and have to wear the good stuff. :scared1: Even then, it seems easier for me to get infections than other people. And both holes are "knotty".... if that makes sense. I feel knots at the hole site. They are just a PITA. I don't want a PITA repeat with DD.

Usually at a tattoo shop. :thumbsup2

OP Update:

I took DD10 to Claires yesterday (Tysons Corner, VA) and we had a wonderful experience. The very experienced and mature store manager did them beautifully. We had no issues at all (she didn't even care that I was taking all these pictures:rolleyes1). The only thing I asked beforehand was that she place the holes slightly higher than normal because as you age, and from years of wearing earrings, the earring hole gets longer and ends-up at the bottom of the lobe. The manager then showed me the proper way to clean them and was very thorough in her directions. DD and I were very comfortable with the process, which from start to finish must have taken only 5 minutes. I think having an older, mature, experienced piercer does make a big difference.

Despite what it says on the instruction sheet and antiseptic bottle, the manager said that for her age (10) not to take the earrings out for 6 months (not 6 weeks) and to continue disinfecting her ear lobes 3X/day for 6 months. I liked that she erred on the side of caution. I would imagine many don't even follow the 6 week suggestion and are upset when they get infected or start to close-up:sad2:.

We looked at the Claires website beforehand to read about their ear piercing process. They have all the information you need online and even the forms you'll fill-out at the store, and the earring selection, (we chose the October 3mm birthstone in 14k). Total for earrings/antiseptic/piercing was around $36.

Thanks to all who posted:)

OP I am glad you had a good experience. We also have left DD's earrings in. Hers were pierced at Claire's in April, and even though we were told we could switch out the earrings after 6 weeks, she was instructed to sleep in them for 6 months and only wear straight post earrings during that time frame as well. So far no problems! We also picked 14K gold and she wears those 99% of the time, and I think that has helped keep us from any infections.

Hope your DD enjoys her new ears!

Ohhhhh........THAT'S why I've never heard of them. We're not exactly overrun with tattoo shops in this neck of the woods. If there's more than one in this half of the county, it would be a miracle. I'd probably have to go on a day trip to find a certified piercer. :lmao:
