I was working at a calendar store at the mall and Roger was a security guard. The very first time we ever spoke, I had seen him with some woman leaving the mall and then he came back around and saw some people coming into the mall. Since I was sitting between the outdoor door and the inside door, he assumed that I had opened the door for them and said "The mall's closed. Please don't open the doors again." I stood up and said very sarcastically "If you hadn't been so busy flirting with your girlfriend, maybe you would have remembered to lock the doors when you left." He apologized and went on about his business.
About a month later, it was Christmas Eve and he came into the store with some woman and started looking at a San Francisco 49ers calendar and said something about whether Jerry Rice would be with the 49ers the next year. I piped up "are you talking about Jerry Rice?" He said yes and I told him that I thought he'd be back because his life and his heart were in the San Francisco area. Roger said he hoped I was right since he was a 49ers fan and asked me who my team was (I didn't want to tell him since the Broncos had just badly beaten the 49ers the day before, but I told him anyway.) We then introduced ourselves.
After that, he started coming into the shop at least two or three times every time we were both working (more than that if there was a football game on....he updated me at least once a quarter on the score.) He told me he was interested in me about 2 weeks after we met but I was still with Thom, so I told him that all we could be was friends (I won't lie.....there was an attraction there and Thom was cheating on me, but I still didn't want to break my vows just because Thom was.) So, we continued being just friends (best friends) for almost two years. After Thom left, Roger asked me if I was finally free to date him and I said yes. That was last September and we are now living together (along with our kids....we have five kids between us) and got engaged last week.
