Where did our hamsters go? Another update (possibly the end) Final update #183

Somehow I missed this thread until now! My brothers had hamsters when they were little. Two hamsters got out one time- I think my mom found them a few days later in our radiators! (the kind that are long and low on the floor) I always remember the story that they died in there, but I think my mom told me I was wrong, they were just hiding in there.

Good luck with the bucket trap!

That is hilarious!

What shall I put in the bucket to really get them in there?

Strong cheese?

Peanut butter?

carrots?

Apples?

PIXIE DUST NEEDED!

We have found solid evidence of something in the basement! May be a hamster.

I found droppings two days ago on the shelf in the pantry.....today found that something has been eating our ramen noodles!

Trap was set (using the stairstep idea and a bucket) but my boys used a ramp and it was knocked down sometime last night.

So, using books tonight and a good strong cheese in the bucket.
:wizard:

Dawn, I hope you are able to trap your hamsters!

A little caution, though. About a month ago I saw one of my friends posted that that her hamster died after she fed it cheese- it became dehydrated after it got the "dairy runs". I don't know if that is true or not, or if you should google hamster diet to see if cheese is ok.

We just got gerbils, and one of them escape from his exercise ball. Fortunately, I saw it scurry under the table in the living room and we were able to put the ball back over him to capture him.

Again, good luck. Many people are interested in hearing some good news!

well you can always hang the water bottle on the other side of the bucket. He might appreciate a good drink as well.

I am tired of that avatar anyway.....:goodvibes

Hopefully we will get one tonight.

Dawn, if you ever get tired of your Starbucks avatar, you can always reduce this and put it in there next. It will certainly bring on the questions! :rotfl:

Nothing this morning.

Shoot.

We leave for Disney tomorrow!

I think I will leave our extra cage in the basement with food and water while we are away if we don't catch anything tonight. Of course, I will be upset if this is a wild MOUSE and we are feeding it!

Hope you catch her OP.

This reminds me of a few years ago when we spent the night at DH's aunts and uncle's and they were having similar issues with a pet SNAKE! (See, it could be worse!)

I got up to go to bathroom in the middle of the night, turned around to flush and the snake was right behind the toilet! I started screaming and ran out of the bathroom. That was the only snake sighting and the snake was sadly (or not so sadly I think for his aunt) seen again. It also gets told everytime we get together because my reaction I guess was pretty funny.

Glad I could be of service.

Sorry to hear the little guy hasn't turned up. Maybe tonight!

I'm leaving for WDW on Sunday, so it looks like you'll be gone when I'm gone. At least I won't miss any updates!

Maybe I should borrow your cat. I can watch your cat find them and then get them before he/she does!

You got a deal! Let me know where and when to send her. Be warned, though, she might not come with a return address.

Seriously...I don't even have hamsters and read this entire thread anxiously hoping the OP finds her hamsters. Yup, I really need to get a life...

We do have a hamster story though. Our neighbors went out of town and we watched their little hamster Valentine for a few days. The very first morning we went downstairs and the cage was empty. EEEEK! We searched everywhere, couldn't believe that we'd have to tell them we lost the hamster. After 2 days we heard a scratching sound in our gas fireplace. She'd gotten in there and was hiding. We finally got her out and put twist ties on the cage. Needless to say, our hamster sitting careers were shortlived.

Good luck OP! I hope when you come home from WDW you find a very nice, healthy and happy present waiting for you.

hahaha!

Well, not to worry, we have dogs to take care of the cat.

I know an old lady who swallowed a hamster.....
She swallowed the cat to chase the hamster......
She swallowed the dog to chase the cat......

Now I will have that song in my head all day!

Oh don't worry, I don't have much of a life either, which is why I keep posting about missing hamsters!
