My husband wants to visit an Orange Grove and take a tour and the MOST important part----PICK HIS OWN ORANGE!!!

He thinks this would be the perfect Florida experience.

Any ideas on where we can do this. We are at WDW for 14 days in December and at St. Pete Beach for 6 days...We will have a car and on a day while we are on the Gulf Coast we plan to take a siteseeing drive of up to 1 hour away in any direction.

Please let me know if you have any info.

Yes! You need to visit Lake Wales which is about a 45-minute drive to the South of Orlando, where there is the Grove House Visitor Center, which will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about citrus!! It is actually a quite fascinating journey into how oranges are grown, the history of the industry, with a tour of their groves, so you really should fine everythingyou need here! Check out this link for more detail:

Have fun!

This sounds like a great idea! My family would love to do this. I hope we find the time during our next trip. I think it would be a good learning experience for kids too.

If you're going out to the Citrus Center, why not make a day of a trip out to Lake Wales - and visit Historic Bok Sanctuary, which is a wonderful and quite educational garden centre, with a superb Carillon Tower (be sure to be there for 3pm!).

Check out their website:

We stayed in a home in Clairmont a few years ago and we went by orange groves. In addition, there was one of those huge orange shaped buildings that used to dot old Florida and appear on post cards. We saw as tower and the Citrus Center. I do not think it is more than 25 minutes away.

Get your map out. On Hwy 27 their are a number of orange groves that you can stop and pick your own fruit. If you are staying in the park you can get on 192 and head west until you reach hwy 27. Go south towards Florida Turnpike. Just look for signs.

If you go to Lake Wales, be sure to add Spook Hill to your list. It's very interesting and free.

You pull up to a line drawn on the road (it's a public street), put your car in neutral, and the car rolls back up the hill. It never fails to amaze people. (It's just off the road that takes you to Bok Tower.)

Good advice. However, I would go north on Hwy. 27 instead. Within 5 minutes you'll find plenty of orange groves and I also suggest you visit http://www.citrustower.com/ . It's just up the road in Clermont, FL. Have fun!

I live in the Four Corners area of Clermont, close to the intersection of 27 and 192. I can think of 3 or 4 places were you can buy and/or pick your own oranges from a little stand on the side of the road.
