DH and a friend smoke an occasional cigar on the back porch, and he wants an ashtray to keep back there. I was gonna get him one for Christmas but can't find them anywhere -- where do you get ashtrays from?

A specialty smoke/tobacco shop? :confused3

I happen to be on amazon.com right now and put in "cigar ashtray" and up they came.

Good luck!

Wow 4 posts and nobody has flamed your pants off yet. It's coming, I tell you.

There are still smoke shops around (we have one in the mall), I think Walmart sells ashtrays, and I might still have one I made in 3rd grade that I could sell you cheap.

(so why DON'T kids make those in school anymore?)

Try an antique shop. They have some really nice onces in my local shop for about $20. Marble ones, too!

If you are just looking for any old ashtrya nothing special, you can pick one up at WalMart. I am a smoker(outside only) and DH occassionally smokes a pipe. I found one for a dollar.HTH

That's just what I was going to suggest. They also have really nice ornate lighters. From back when lighters were considered furniture

Nope - not my Walmart. My DS actually did make something that could pass for an ashtray this year - but no way am I giving it to DH to dump cigar ashes in!! ;)

I'll have to go look. We've got a couple around here. Maybe I'll luck out!

Do you remember what part of the store it was in? I asked at my Walmart, and they said they didn't carry them. Of course, that doesn't mean the person knew what they were talking about. :sad2:

Garage Sales (which is gonna be impossible to do this time of year!)

But do you have a Thrift Store by you?

Or what about - do you have one of those 'pottery places' where you pick out your pottery and paint it - they fire it for you and you pick it up?

If you got a bowl or plate, that material can be sanded down pre-firing (it's really soft and easy to file before firing) So you can make notches.

Then have fun painting one!

And if youre really looking for low budget, try a Auto Parts store. They still sell those 'bean bag bottom' ones.

If I were you - I'd go to your local thrift store. I know mine has them (and some are pretty fun and intricate and cool....from decades ago, for just a few bucks)

I did think about that. I just took the kids on Thursday to make a cookie jar for Grandma. That was their cut-off for stuff to be ready for Christmas. But, if I can find a cheapo one somewhere, I may get that and then let the kids go back and make one for him later on.

Yes - I still have the one I made and use it. :lmao: IT was supposed to be a bowl, and I sucked at pottery and the sides all kinda fell and caved in....perfect ashtray. :thumbsup2

I bet not one other person who made that thing, still has theirs. :snooty:

See??? Definitely check this out!!!
